December 5, 2025

On the morning of December 2, a team from Shanghai Children's Medical Center, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, visited SHSID Middle and Primary School to discuss cooperation on medical science and innovation education. The delegation included Dr. Du Juan, Vice President of Shanghai Children's Medical Center; Ms. Mi Qiang, Deputy Director of the Pediatric Clinical Medical School; and Ms. Li Xie, Secretary of the Youth League Committee. They were welcomed by Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School; Mr. Luo Hua, Director of SHSID Middle and Primary School Affairs Center; Ms. Lu Luting, Director of SHSID Puxi Campus Grade 4-5; and Ms. Yao Shenghua, General Supervisor of SHSID Middle and Primary School Science and Technology.

In late 2024, Shanghai Children's Medical Center established the “Shanghai Children's Medical Science and Innovation Education Base” under the National Children's Medical Center. Leveraging this new platform, the center aims to explore new pathways for integrating medical popular science with fundamental education in collaboration with SHSID.

During the event, Principal Liu delivered a welcome speech and introduced the overall framework of science and innovation education within the Middle and Primary School, highlighting recent curricular and project-based developments in life sciences. He expressed his hope that the two sides will strengthen collaboration in curriculum development, hands-on learning, and co-building of science education resources.

Dr. Du shared examples of the center's ongoing youth science outreach programs and medical experience projects, offering constructive ideas on how to effectively promote medical science education among primary and middle school students. Both teams engaged in active discussions on future curriculum cooperation, resource sharing, and activity design.

During the visit, Shanghai Children's Medical Center presented SHSID with the popular science book Strong Body, Strong Me, specially written as a supporting reader for the “Children's Medical Exploration Camp.” SHSID, in return, presented the visiting team with its Innovation Project Curriculum Book, which showcases the Middle and Primary School's STEAM education initiatives, and awarded the Center a plaque for “Collaborative Partnership in Science Education,” in recognition of its support for the school's scientific education development.

This exchange further strengthened the foundation for cooperation between the two institutions in the field of science education and created new possibilities for SHSID students to explore the world of medicine and enhance their scientific literacy.
