Puxi Campus G1: An Eggcellent Adventure in Love and Responsibility
During the recently concluded "Gratitude and Caring Month," first-grade students at the Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID) Puxi Campus embarked on an extraordinary "life experience"—becoming guardians for their very own "egg baby." Dubbed the "Eggcellent" activity, this week-long project aimed to teach children the true meaning of responsibility and care through hands-on, intimate companionship.

At the start of the activity, each first grader carefully received and claimed an "egg baby" of their own. They decorated their egg babies with cute faces using colored markers, gave them unique names, and crafted cozy "homes" using soft materials. From that moment on, the children's roles transformed; they were no longer just children who needed care themselves, but had also become "moms" or "dads" who needed to shoulder full responsibility.

For the following week, the campus was filled with heartwarming and amusing scenes. Wherever they went, the first-grade "little parents" carefully guarded their egg babies. In the classroom, the egg babies sat quietly in the cubbies, accompanying their young owners through lessons, reading, and writing. At home, the children continued their guardianship duties: saving a spot for their egg baby at the dinner table, having it "witness" their good habits while brushing their teeth, and gently placing it by their pillows at bedtime, sometimes even reading it a bedtime story. They began to walk more carefully for fear of breaking their egg baby, proactively organized their school bags to create a safe space for it, and gained a deeper understanding of the effort their parents put into caring for them.

The week-long guardianship journey was full of challenges, as any careless moment could lead to the egg baby getting "hurt." Therefore, when the activity concluded, the faces of those children who had successfully kept their egg babies safe and sound were filled with pride and joy. Through their perseverance and loving care, they earned the highly esteemed title of "Eggcellent Parent."

Meanwhile, children who accidentally shattered their egg babies received a consolation letter prepared by the teachers. The letter aimed to comfort them, help them understand the weight of the word "responsibility," and encourage them to learn from the experience and care for their new egg babies with extra care in the following activities. At the end of the week, these resilient and responsible "egg parents" who refused to be discouraged by failure were awarded a special certificate.

This "Eggcellent" activity was a distinctive part of the "Gratitude and Caring Month" educational series. It used a tangible and gamified approach to transform the abstract concepts of "responsibility" and "care" into the children's genuine actions and feelings. A simple egg, like a touchstone for character, honed the children's patience, ignited their tenderness, and allowed them to develop a deeper appreciation for the care they receive from their parents, teachers, and friends.
Although this wonderful adventure in responsibility has temporarily concluded, the seeds of love and responsibility it planted are sure to continue taking root and sprouting in the children's hearts.
