Pudong Campus: Career Day

December 5, 2025

On December 2nd, Pudong Campus's Career Day event unfolded enthusiastically across the campus. Centered on the theme "First Taste of Careers, the World Unfolds Before Your Eyes," the event invited ten parent representatives— professional leaders from fields including software engineering, news media, law, finance, materials science, and modern agriculture. Through interactive sharing and immersive experiences, these parent representatives not only unveiled the mysteries of the professional world to the children but also consistently embodied the school's educational philosophy of cultivating responsible global citizens and shaping social awareness. This guided students in establishing preliminary career awareness while helping them understand the profound connections between personal skills, societal development, and global issues, thereby expanding their perceptions and imagination regarding future careers.

In the "Smart Farm" classroom experience, a farmer parent vividly demonstrated modern farming's intelligent cultivation, data-driven harvesting, and eco-friendly architectural design. The session concluded with participants handcrafting wreaths from natural materials like cotton, branches, flowers, and red berries, immersing themselves in the fusion of science and nature to discover the earth's new language.

In the marvelous realm of materials science, a materials engineer guided children on an exploration of "Time and Eternity." Rather than presenting complex chemical formulas, she narrated the human journey of extracting materials like petroleum. During the hands-on session, children carefully selected their favorite dried flowers or leaves, placed them in molds, and then poured in a "magic solution." When they finally held their own unique, handmade "amber" in their palms, they grasped the most intuitive insight into materials science: Cutting-edge innovation can spring from the most ancient of romances; an engineer's creativity serves as the bridge connecting past and future.

A mechanical engineer introduced various automotive roles, connecting children's daily lives to science. They encouraged the children to imagine and describe their envisioned vehicles or a futuristic technological world... This lesson planted a seed in the children's minds: engineers are not merely problem solvers, but dreamers who cultivate the flowers of the future in the soil of reality using science and imagination.

A Google software engineer, wielding a "magic wand," introduced a day in the life of a software engineer, captivating the children. The subsequent programming mini-game brought the classroom atmosphere to a fever pitch, with the children's eyes lighting up alongside the code on the screen.

In a mock courtroom, lawyers engaged in fierce verbal duels, their minds clashing in logical battles. Financial investments unfolded like a battlefield, flashing sparks of wisdom. Within a wondrous mushroom house, intelligent systems nurtured the vibrant growth of these adorable crops. Journalists demonstrated sharp wit and ingenuity, while doctors emerged as our superheroes during illness. AI steadily bridges the gap between disease and hospital care... This feast of knowledge and experience immerses young minds in novel fields and skills— all intimately connected to our daily lives.

Mr. Wu Xiaodong, Director of SHSID Pudong Campus, remarked: "Through such activities, we aim for children to understand that every profession is a way to engage with the world. Whether cultivating an intelligent mushroom or developing medical AI, human values should guide these endeavors. The seeds planted in their hearts today may grow into forces driving societal progress tomorrow."

The event garnered deep resonance and active participation from parents. Many shared that Career Day not only broadened their children's horizons but also sparked family discussions about rethinking "professional value" and "social responsibility." By blending social care with technological innovation, Career Day aligns with the educational vision of "cultivating empathetic, action-oriented global citizens."
