Middle and Primary School Science and Technology Department: SHSID Middle and Primary School Students Win Second Prize in Shanghai DI Innovation Thinking Competition

December 5, 2025

From November 29 to 30, 2025, the highly anticipated DI (Destination Imagination) Shanghai Youth Innovation Thinking Competition was successfully held. SHSID Middle and Primary School’s “Art Panda Team” stood out in the fiercely competitive Spontaneous Challenge category with their exceptional improvisational creativity and strong teamwork, earning the Second Prize and showcasing the remarkable talent of SHSID students.

The “Art Panda Team” is a cross-grade creative group consisting of seven students: Jasmine Zhou, Queena, Jenny, and Carolin from Grade 8; Emily and Doreen from Grade 7; and Fiona from Grade 6. From the moment they received the competition notice to the day they stepped onto the stage, the team went through an intense yet fulfilling preparation journey.

Unlike traditional performance competitions, DI’s Spontaneous Challenge requires extremely high levels of on-the-spot reaction, creative integration, and team coordination—making the preparation process both demanding and exciting. To strengthen their improvisational abilities, team members engaged in intensive practice during their free time. On the day of the competition, when confronted with a randomly assigned prompt, the Art Panda Team remained calm and focused. With only two minutes to design their script, they quickly divided tasks, clarified the central concept, structured the storyline, and aligned character roles and performance details based on each member’s strengths. Their seamless collaboration not only demonstrated SHSID students’ outstanding improvisational skills but also impressed the judges with the team’s cohesion.

After the competition, the team members were thrilled. Jasmine, an 8th-grade student, shared her reflections:
“I think this competition really improved my creativity and teamwork skills. We communicated effectively and came up with a clear script within just two minutes. We tried our best to solve the problems we faced, encouraged one another, and became great friends in the process. Overall, I truly enjoyed this experience and look forward to competing in Beijing next time!”

Winning the Second Prize in the DI Spontaneous Challenge is the result of collective creativity and excellent teamwork. It not only recognizes the individual strengths and cooperation of the seven students but also affirms SHSID’s ongoing efforts in cultivating innovative thinking among its students. Moving forward, SHSID will continue to provide diverse platforms for hands-on learning, encouraging more students to challenge themselves and grow through various competitions.
