Good News from 2025 S.-T. Yau High School Science Award Global Finals

From December 6th to 7th, the Global Finals of the 2025 S.-T. Yau High School Science Award was held in Beijing. This year, students from SHSID delivered outstanding performances: a total of 11 student teams stood out in the semi-finals, winning 6 First Prizes and 5 Second Prizes, among which 6 First Prize-winning teams successfully advanced to the Global Finals. After intense and competitive rounds, SHSID students excelled across the board, with every team member recognized at the global final —achieving a 100% award rate—securing six awards in total: a Gold in Computer Science, a Silver and Bronze in Biology, and Merit Awards in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Hereby, we extend our warm congratulations to them!



Since 2021, students from SHSID have accumulated fruitful achievements in the S.-T. Yau Science Award Finals: 11 Merit Awards, 5 Bronze Awards, 2 Silver Awards, 3 Gold Awards, and 1 Science Gold Award. Behind these outstanding results is the long-term support and careful cultivation of the school's STEAM advisors and academic mentors. S. -T. Yau High School Science Award


The S. -T. Yau High School Science Award is a science innovation award initiated by Professor Shing-Tung Yau in 2008. Hosted by Tsinghua University, the competition is open to high school students worldwide. After 18 years of development, it has established a platform for scientific research and innovation capabilities, with science as the framework and six core disciplines including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Economics modeling. The award has attracted more than 17,200 teams in total, 647 student teams and over 725 students have won awards, and more than 500 top scientists around the world have served as judges or consultants for the competition.


In this year's competition, more than 2,800 teams from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions of China, as well as countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, India and Thailand registered to compete. A total of 161 student teams advanced to the semifinals in the Chinese Mainland regional round, and ultimately 86 teams worldwide took the stage at the global finals. In the global finals, just over 60 awards were handed out, with only one Gold and one Silver per subject, three to four Bronze awards, and five Merit Awards.
