Theme Lecture on Chang'e Lunar Exploration Mission
On the morning of December 10, the Auditorium at the Xianmian Building was packed to capacity for a high-profile frontier science lecture titled “China’s Chang’e Lunar Exploration Program.” The lecture invited Dr. Yuan Yong, Chief Designer of the Chang’e-6 Orbiter System and a senior researcher, who delivered an inspiring and informative lecture on China’s lunar exploration endeavors to the teachers and students at SHSID. This lecture not only showcased the remarkable achievements of China’s aerospace program but also reflected the SHSID’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of innovative talents.

As a core expert deeply involved in China’s lunar missions, Dr. Yuan began by outlining the strategic roadmap of the Chang’e Program, tracing its technological evolution from Chang’e-1 through to Chang’e-6. He placed special emphasis on the groundbreaking design of the Chang’e-6 probe, clearly explaining key technical innovations in the orbiter’s architecture and the formidable global challenges overcome by Chinese aerospace engineers during the historic far-side lunar sample return mission.

Through rich multimedia content—including photographs, video clips, and compelling case studies—Dr. Yuan transformed complex aerospace concepts into accessible, engaging narratives. The audience not only gained deep insight into the program’s milestone accomplishments but also resonated profoundly with the “Chang’e Spirit”: “Pursuing dreams, daring to explore, collaborating to overcome challenges, and achieving shared progress.” During the Q&A session, students actively engaged with Dr. Yuan on topics ranging from lunar exploration technologies and talent development in aerospace to planning for future deep-space missions—fostering a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere.

This lecture is a flagship component of the SHSID’s “Frontier Science & Innovative Talent Development” series. Guided by a student-centered educational philosophy, SHSID places strong emphasis on fostering cutting-edge scientific literacy. It regularly invites leading experts from major national and international engineering projects to school, offering students direct exposure to the forefront of national scientific advancement—and thereby igniting their curiosity, creativity, and passion for research.
