Grade 12 Assembly: More than Dance: Advocacy & Healing

December 17, 2025

On December 12, the 12th graders at SHSID attended their weekly assembly. During the assembly, Isabel from class 12-3 shared her experience of applying her dance skills to help the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) community.

She joined an autism awareness club and realized there are many misleading stereotypes about people with ASD, which led her to volunteer at an autism rehabilitation center and organize art shows there. Additionally, these experiences inspired her to research dance and movement therapies for ASD, and she used her findings to host therapeutic dance sessions at an adult autism support center. Through her journey with dance, she learned that dance can be a nonverbal form of connection, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion among communities. The students were inspired by Isabel’s dedication and compassion within the ASD community, and the assembly ended on a heartwarming note.
