Youth Dialogue with Chief Scientists: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, Gazing Toward a Broader Horizon
In December 2025, SHSID Middle and Primary School once again launched its signature Youth Dialogue with Chief Scientists series. Centered on the themes of "The Polar Regions" and "Insects," the event invited Arctic explorer Captain Taatsi and renowned natural education advocate Zhu Xiaoyu to engage in in-depth conversations with students.
During the interviews, Captain Taatsi shared firsthand observations of the retreating Arctic snowline, guiding students to reflect on the urgency of climate change and environmental protection. Beginning with a single mantis egg case, Mr. Zhu Xiaoyu vividly illustrated the concept of ecological balance, inspiring students to discover science in the natural world around them. Through their profound expertise and sincere humanistic concern, both speakers conveyed a powerful message: science is not distant--every question asked and every discovery made can be a vital step toward understanding the world.

This event exemplified the school's educational philosophy of "focusing on interests and unlocking potential." Through dialogue with leading scientists, students not only gained exposure to cutting-edge developments in polar exploration and entomology, but also developed a deeper appreciation for the pursuit of truth and the sense of social responsibility inherent in scientific inquiry.
From meticulous observation in insect research to dialectical thinking on ecological conservation, the two experts, drawing upon their authentic research experiences and profound insights, opened a window for young learners that integrates scientific understanding with values education. The Youth Dialogue with Chief Scientists series will continue to provide students with opportunities to engage closely with science, stimulate critical thinking, and support their growth into future talents equipped with scientific literacy, innovative spirit, and social awareness.
