Aì Polishes Jade · AI+ Lights Minds—Highlights of SHSID Middle and Primary School Professional Development Day
Centered on the theme "Ai·Love to Reflect", the Professional Development (PD) Day event for SHSID Middle and Primary Sections was held on December 24 in the Hsi Building Auditorium. The event offered all teachers a gathering of idea— where thoughtful inquiry met forward momentum, and reflection gave rise to new possibilities.

Stone to Jade, Thought to Craft
Dr. Chen Peng from Shanghai Teacher Institute kicked off the PD Day with a keynote lecture. Under the title of "Evidence Transformation in Teachers' Evidence-Based Practice— Approaches Based on Large Language Models (LLMs)", Dr.Chen systematically introduced what evidence transformation is, why teachers need it, and how LLMs can help transform evidence into practical teaching programs that truly fit a specific school and class.

In his remarks, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, Vice Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School spoke highly of the insights shared and encouraged teachers to actively experiment with and apply them in their daily teaching.

AI to Teaching, Light to Learning
In the second half of the PD Day, two teachers from the middle and primary
sections gave thematic presentations.
Mr. Kang Liang first introduced and demonstrated cutting-edge AI applications
in cultivating students' higher-order thinking while easing teachers' repetitive
workload. His presentation invited teachers to rethink the boundaries of technology in education. Mr. Kang also shared concrete practices of "AI+STEM" in
middle and primary science and technology education.

Next, Mr. Guo Lei stepped forward, presenting "Transformations in Teaching and Learning with AI Participation". From the perspectives of both teaching and learning, he traced the changes and challenges AI brings before, during, and after class. Drawing on authentic classroom practices, he shared how the middle school physics team has integrated AI purposefully into lessons guided by clear learning objectives.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School highlighted that AI empowerment in classrooms is no longer a distant vision but a call of the times. As technology reshapes the nature of foundational work, education must respond by cultivating deeper competencies in students. He encouraged all teachers to move forward with courage, curiosity, and confidence.

After the plenary session, each subject department engaged in in-depth discussions aligned with the PD Day theme.
The Primary School Mathematics Group focused on AI-empowered classrooms, from contextualized teaching to Math Week practice, sharing diverse cases to help teachers improve teaching effectiveness. The Primary School Chinese Group reflected on this semester's experience with AI-supported writing.

Teachers from the Middle School Chinese Group watched and discussed expert demonstration lessons on AI-empowered Chinese teaching, while the Middle School Mathematics Group used the demo lesson as a case to examine the design and practice strategies of AI-empowered classrooms by comparing AI, Excel, and manual calculations.

The Biology Group shared progress in AI-supported instruction; the Physics Group explored AI-driven flipped-classroom preparation through demo lessons; and the History and Geography Group discussed teaching practices that integrate AI into education, focusing on the project "Research on Using AI to Promote Students' Regional Cognition from the Perspective of Generative Learning Theory".

"Qiji* in full stride, unstoppable in momentum"— every teacher in the Middle and Primary School is a spirited steed, rich with energy and purpose. As the Yearof the Horse approaches, we look forward to seeing them press forward with confidence and reach ever-higher goals.

(*Qiji: In classical Chinese, the term refers to a fine steed.)
