Grade 10 Assembly: Experiences and Reflections for the Duke of Edinburgh Award
On January 7, sophomore students of SHSID gathered at Zhongxing Theater to hear Chaewon and Maggie from Class 11 share their experiences after achieving the bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. After the teacher briefly introduced the students, the two students began their presentation to provide details about the award.
First, the two students described how Duke of Edinburgh Award works as an achievement. It is an internationally recognized program that aims to prioritize an individual’s overall development, emphasizing hard work and strategic thinking. The award encourages its participants to strive in its three named categories—volunteering, physical, and skills. Based on these elements, the award aims to train qualities of commitment and self-discipline in those wishing to participate.

The two students then went on to share their own journey following the three categories. For volunteering, both students expressed their fun experience as teachers helping students in local communities with English studies. Then they moved on to their journey in physical training, of which one student practiced cycling while the other played tennis. Lastly, the two described their time working on their individual skills, which included one student practicing German while the other used the opportunity to enhance their research.
Later, both students discussed the “Adventurous Journey” section of Duke of Edinburgh Award, which consisted of a multi-day trip focused on teaching students hiking and navigation skills. They both reflected on how the experience was incredibly rewarding as well as educational, recommending it to their fellow students.
Altogether, this assembly presentation has been a valuable information session for sophomores on the Duke of Edinburgh Award program, providing beneficial guidance and advice.
