Empowering Teaching with Data Intelligence

December 9, 2025

On December 5, 2025, Computer Science Department held a meeting at Yifu Building centered on the theme “Empowering Teaching with Data Intelligence.”  The meeting aimed to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, and to promote deeper integration of information technology with subject-specific pedagogy.

Mr. Li opened the session with a presentation titled “Practical Classroom Instruction Design Based on UML Modeling.” Drawing from his extensive experience teaching the IB Computer Science curriculum, he elaborated on how Unified Modeling Language (UML) can be used to visually design instructional processes. Using UML tools such as class diagrams, use case diagrams, and activity diagrams, Mr. Li demonstrated how abstract learning objectives can be transformed into well-structured, logically coherent lesson plans. He emphasized that UML not only helps teachers systematically plan instructional sequences but also enhances students’ ability to comprehend complex knowledge structures—particularly beneficial for project-based learning and interdisciplinary curriculum design.

Subsequently, Mr. Yuan shared key insights from a city-level teaching research event he attended on December 2, organized by the Municipal Academy of Educational Sciences, which focused on cutting-edge explorations of “AI-Empowered Basic Education.” During the event, a teacher from a leading municipal high school delivered an open lesson on “Principles and Applications of Intelligent Speech Recognition,” engaging students in hands-on tasks to build simple AI models within authentic contexts—exemplifying the pedagogical philosophy of “learning by doing and creating.” Additionally, Mr. Yuan introduced a resource titled “Core Concepts of Artificial Intelligence for High School,” collaboratively compiled by several Shanghai-based informatics educators. He also shared sample lesson plans from his own recent open class on AI applications, offering practical references and pedagogical interpretations for future AI instruction at the high school level.
