Puxi Campus G4–8: Fire Safety Drill

March 9, 2026

To further enhance fire safety awareness and strengthen the campus safety system, all teachers and students from Grades 4 to 8 at the Puxi Campus of Shanghai High School International Division conducted a focused and practical fire emergency evacuation drill on the afternoon of March 5. The exercise not only reinforced safety awareness among the school community but also effectively improved students’ ability to respond to emergencies such as fires and to evacuate safely.

Ensuring campus safety is the fundamental foundation of teaching and learning, and fire safety remains a key priority within the school’s overall safety framework. Since the beginning of the semester, each class has carried out a variety of fire safety education activities tailored to their specific situations. During morning assemblies and homeroom sessions, teachers systematically introduced fire escape strategies and essential emergency response knowledge. They also reviewed the evacuation routes and emergency exits in the West Building, and provided detailed explanations of the procedures and precautions for the upcoming drill. Through these preparatory sessions, students gained a clearer understanding of the importance of fire safety knowledge and developed stronger awareness of how to respond in emergency situations.

On the afternoon of March 5, the fire alarm sounded, marking the official start of the emergency evacuation drill for Grades 4 to 8. Upon hearing the alarm, teachers and students quickly evacuated their classrooms in an orderly manner. Throughout the drill, students remained calm and composed. Covering their noses and mouths with their sleeves and maintaining a low posture, they followed the designated evacuation routes and moved swiftly toward the safe assembly areas near the academic building. Within the designated time, all participating teachers and students safely arrived at the assembly points, successfully completing the emergency evacuation drill.

Upon arrival at the assembly point, homeroom teachers immediately conducted headcounts and reported the status using three-color indicator cards. Although the evacuation was carried out under simulated emergency conditions, the process remained orderly and calm. Students demonstrated composure and discipline throughout the drill, reflecting the effectiveness of regular safety training.

After the drill, each class held brief reflection sessions to review the experience. Through discussion, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of staying calm, protecting themselves, and cooperating with others during emergencies. The fire drill not only strengthened the emergency response awareness of teachers and students, but also further reinforced the campus safety system. In the future, SHSID Puxi Campus will continue to improve safety education and regular emergency drills, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
