Pudong Campus G2-3: From Anticipating Challenges to Setting Goals, Independent Learning Roots Deepen
This semester, centered on the core goal of “cultivating independent learners”, Grade 2 and 3 of Pudong Campus have built a practical platform featuring “senior sharing - home-school discussion - goal implementation”. It guides students to anticipate learning challenges, plan learning paths, and foster good habits of self-management and active exploration in goal-setting, moving steadily towards independent learning growth.
At the beginning of the activity, senior students from Grade 3 and 4 shared their experiences and the challenges of advancing to higher grades—such as time allocation issues, knowledge comprehension difficulties, and review efficiency bottlenecks—in easy-to-understand language, along with practical tips to help the younger students prepare with clarity and confidence.
Following the senior sharing, a warm home-school discussion session was held at the weekend. Students combine their seniors’ insights, communicated their learning concerns and expectations with parents. Parents listened attentively and provided targeted advice based on their children’s actual learning situations. Both sides had heated discussions on “addressing learning challenges” and “setting reasonable goals”, uniting their efforts to lay a solid foundation for personalized goal formulation.
In the core session, teachers professionally guided Grade 2 and 3 students in setting SMART goals, explaining the five key elements of “Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Timely” to help them transform abstract requirements into precise targets. Collaborating with parents and teachers, students defined specific midterm goals tailored to their learning needs: for example, mastering 100 core English words, conducting 2 math error reviews weekly, and reading 20 minutes of extracurricular books daily.
After finalizing their goals, students personally pasted their SMART goals as name tags on the corners of their desks, keeping their targets visible as a constant reminder. When feeling confused or slack, the name tags guided them back on track; upon completing small goals, they gained a sense of accomplishment, further fueling their motivation for independent learning.
This activity not only enabled Grade 2 and 3 students to master goal-setting methods and anticipate learning challenges but also deeply embedded the concept of independent learning in their hearts. Shifting from passive guidance to active future planning, students gradually enhanced their self-management, planning, and execution skills, steadily transforming into independent learners. Going forward, Pudong Campus will continue to deepen the cultivation of independent learning abilities, inject lasting motivation into students’ long-term development, and support every learner in moving forward steadily on their growth journey.
