MIT 1+2, Year of the Horse “Caltech” + “MIT” | High School Pi Day Activities Conclude with a Thrilling Finale!

As our high school’s week-long Pi Day mathematics-themed activities came to a successful close, we are thrilled to share excellent admission results from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
SHSID Class of 2026 students have once again achieved remarkable success:
In the Regular Decision round, students received 1 offer from Caltech and 2 offers from MIT.
Combined with 1 MIT offer from the Early Action round, the Class of 2026 has earned a total of 3 MIT offers, setting a new record in our school’s history.
From rigorous and rational exploration in mathematics and science, to these heavyweight offers from the world’s top universities—this is both an echo of passion and intellectual pursuit, and powerful testimony to strength and dedicated effort. Next, let us follow the words and images to relive the wonderful moments of this past week, when the teachers and students of SHSID High School immersed themselves in mathematics, enjoyed deep thinking, and shared intellectual joy together.
Scientific Planning: Psychological Experiments on States of Mind
On Monday and Tuesday, the math department and the psychology group collaboratively designed an experiment on how different interventions affect math computation and spatial perception. After a timed pre-test, students were randomly assigned to four groups: dynamic exercise, melodious music, self-affirmation, or quiet sitting. Following a 60-second intervention, they took a post-test, intuitively experiencing the impact of their mental state on performance. Student volunteers and teachers worked seamlessly, making the experiment both engaging and scientifically profound.

Quiet and Lively: Reading and Competition Side-by-Side
At Wednesday noon, the Zhongxing Building reading room became a math corner. Participants set aside devices, spending 40 minutes quietly reading math books and later writing reflections on bookmarks. Simultaneously, the student-led Math Bee individual challenge concluded successfully, centering on algebra, geometry, probability, and integrals. Teachers and students competed together, experiencing the rigor and wonder of mathematics amidst lively intellectual clashes.

Competition and Cooperation: The Brilliance of Teamwork
At Friday noon, a lecture on psychological statistics was held. Ms. Yuan from the high school math department and Ms. Yu from the psychology group, with the Data Science Club, introduced statistical methods and analyzed experimental data, bringing students closer to the meaning behind the data and showing math as a key to understanding human behavior. At the same time, David and Ricky, with the STEMDoge Club, hosted an Integral Bee team relay. Teams of teachers and students solved integral problems under time limits, testing both individual ability and team strategy. Ultimately, the teacher team clinched the championship with their profound knowledge.

Grade-Level Activities: Various Ways to Experience Pi
Grade 9 activities featured paper chain assembly, number games, and "Who is the Undercover" reinforcing knowledge through play. Grade 10's creative domino challenge made math "visible and tangible," with students building creative structures related to math. Grade 11 honed their imagination with clay games and solved original logic puzzles through collaboration. Grade 12's event featured Claire singing 100 digits of Pi, Max's math magic, Allen's academic presentation, and a lively round of games, highlighted by Dr. He acting out math terms.

The week-long Pi Day celebration was a profound exploration of interdisciplinary learning. Students learned through experience, grew through cooperation. Mathematics is more than formulas; it exists in rhythm, music, writing, dominoes, magic, and data. When math meets psychology, the boundaries of thinking are expanded. The high school math department will continue to create diverse activities, letting knowledge spark wonder and allowing every student's passion to extend infinitely, just like Pi!
