Pudong Campus: Gathering Love in the Warm Spring, Walking Together for Kindness and Empathy

April 1, 2026

As the spring sun brings warmth, kindness flows. To put into practice the philanthropic mission of "children caring for, influencing, and helping other children," and to allow students to personally participate in charitable activities, spread warmth, and engage in their own philanthropic initiatives, the Spring Charity Bazaar at the Pudong Campus of Shanghai High School International Division warmly kicked off on March 27. Before the fair began, teachers meticulously prepared and carefully guided the students, explaining in detail the procedures, rules, and deeper significance of the event. They vividly introduced the heartwarming mission of the Shanghai Children's Foundation's "Loving Little Ones Initiative," helping the students understand that every item sold and every donation would bring hope and care to peers in need. Through the teachers' explanations, the seeds of philanthropy quietly took root, and the spirit of giving was deeply instilled in every child's heart, laying a solid foundation for the event's success.

On the day of the event, the campus buzzed with excitement and warmth, as students, teachers, and parents enthusiastically participated. Ms. Liu Lian, Principal of the Elementary and Middle School Division at Shanghai High School International Division, and Vice Principal Ms. Liu Fang also attended the event in person, joining the children in this act of kindness to support the cause. Each grade's booth was unique and vibrant, featuring everything from creative posters to specialty goods, fun games to delicious treats. Every detail reflected the children's dedication and enthusiasm, creating the most heartwarming scene on the spring campus.

The first-graders transformed into "little creative geniuses," designing posters that were brightly colored and full of childlike charm, instantly capturing everyone's attention. At their booths, fun games like ring toss and bottle guessing took turns entertaining the crowd, filling the air with constant laughter and joy. Their homemade desserts and drinks were fresh, healthy, and fragrant, becoming the most popular items at the event; every delicious treat was filled with the children's pure love.

The second-grade booth, meanwhile, was filled with a scholarly and artistic atmosphere. Parents and children ingeniously combined elements from the lesson "Plant Moms Have a Way" to carefully craft a special "Over the Forest" shop. They strung various seeds into exquisite wind chimes, bracelets, and other decorations. Each piece was uniquely crafted and full of childlike charm. Thanks to their innovative ideas and meticulous craftsmanship, everything sold out in just half an hour. They conveyed love through creativity and interpreted the lesson's meaning through hands-on practice.

The third-grade booth was equally impressive, with gray-haired grandparents joining the children and parents on-site to participate in the charity sale. They actively helped organize items and greet customers, demonstrating compassion and responsibility through their actions. Their presence not only added warmth to the event but also served as a vivid example of home-school collaboration and parent-child interaction, allowing the warmth between generations to be passed on through kindness.

The stalls run by fourth and fifth-graders were a veritable "treasure trove." The fourth graders' booths were filled with a dazzling array of figurines and plush toys, while the air was filled with the enticing aromas of all kinds of specialty foods. The children weaved their way through the stalls, carefully selecting their favorite items, lingering endlessly and thoroughly enjoying themselves. The fifth-grade beef hot pot stall was bustling with activity, its enticing aroma wafting freely across the campus and drawing crowds of students, teachers, and parents who stopped to sample the dish, making it the most popular "photo spot" at the event.

The highlight of this charity fair was undoubtedly the special event—"Pie in the Face." Teachers bravely took the "stage" to accept the students' pie-throwing challenges, igniting the atmosphere with humor and good-natured spirit. As one cream pie after another landed with "pinpoint accuracy," cheers and laughter echoed throughout the venue, pushing the event's atmosphere to its peak. This special activity was planned and executed entirely by members of the ASB group. From initial promotion, mid-event voting, and tallying of votes, to the final selection of five participating teachers, they worked closely with fourth- and fifth-grade teachers, demonstrating responsibility and dedication to complete this fun and meaningful charitable event.

One charity sale, one act of kindness, one step toward growth. This spring charity sale not only raised funds for the Shanghai Children's Foundation's "Loving Little Ones Initiative," but also allowed the children to develop their communication skills, practical abilities, and sense of responsibility through hands-on experience, truly realizing the original intention of "letting children lead their own charitable efforts." As the opening event for April's CME theme of "Kindness and Empathy," this charity sale perfectly aligns with our school's educational philosophy of cultivating socially conscious and responsible global citizens. It enables children to learn empathy while spreading kindness and to grow and thrive through charitable action, allowing the seeds of compassion and responsibility to take root, blossom, and bear fruit on our campus.
