Pudong Campus: Home-School Unity Nurtures Growth, Graded Empowerment Facilitates Progressive Transition
From March 31 to April 1, the Pudong Campus of Shanghai High School International Division held parent-teacher conferences for Grades 1 to 5 at different times. The conferences centered on the agenda of "Director's Stage Sharing + Grade-Specific Sharing". Mr. Wu Xiaodong, Director of SHSID Pudong Campus, first addressed key concerns from parents and shared the school's three main development areas: the CME curriculum, AI integration in teaching, and physical education. Each grade then delivered targeted sharing based on its stage characteristics, focusing on key development goals to support students at different levels. The events strengthened home-school cooperation, created a warm and active atmosphere, and built greater confidence and shared understanding for joint education.

At the beginning of the meetings, Mr. Wu Xiaodong shared the school's recent overall plans based on frequently asked questions from parents in the survey, clarifying the direction of home-school cooperation. Mr. Wu stated that cultivating responsible global citizens is one of the core educational goals for the primary and lower secondary levels. The well-developed CME curriculum serves as the main approach to achieve this goal. Each month, the school sets a CME theme, together with parent letters and small home tasks, to promote character education at home and at school, helping students put knowledge into practice. Regarding AI in teaching, the school takes an open but careful approach, following two principles: enhancing classroom learning and teaching students to use technology wisely, so that AI truly supports teaching and improves students' abilities. In addition, Director Wu encouraged parents to help their children plan physical activities according to their interests. The school will also provide platforms for students to show their sports talents, helping them stay healthy while developing time management skills and personal hobbies. The school hopes that students of SHSID will become independent learners with strong academic abilities, wise explorers who can master technology, and healthy, kind-minded global citizens.

The Grades 4 & 5 session focused on "independent thinking and completing learning tasks independently", helping students fully prepare for a smooth transition to middle school. Grade 4 centered on comprehensive ability development guided by the "G.R.O.W." concept. While strengthening character building, it emphasized the development of foundational advanced learning skills. By guiding students to preview lessons independently, finish homework on their own, and check their work by themselves, the school helped improve both their character qualities and independent learning abilities, laying a solid foundation for future study. Teachers from Grade 5 explained in detail the preparation for the transition from Grade 5 to 6, and gave parents a full introduction to campus life and learning in the next stage. Meanwhile, the school developed eight core competencies based on the "G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E." concept. This month's CME theme was "Embracing Uniqueness". While guiding students to understand themselves, respect others, and improve empathy and teamwork, the school also encouraged independent thinking, self-planned study, and completing tasks on their own. Students were supported to explore actively, organize knowledge independently, and gradually form good habits of self-discipline.

The Grades 1-3 session focused on the growth needs of younger students, with the core goals of "developing basic qualities and good learning habits". Each grade shared age-appropriate character education based on the school's CME curriculum. Grade 1 focused on basic character building, such as safety, discipline, responsibility, and independence. Through classroom activities, students developed good habits, including planning their own study and organizing their belongings. Practical parenting tips were also provided for parents. Notably, three Grade 1 parents shared their real-life parenting experience, offering useful examples for home-school cooperation. Based on the foundation of Grade 1, Grades 2 and 3 further developed CME skills, especially responsibility, empathy, and cooperation. In academic learning, the school clarified key requirements for Chinese, Mathematics, and English, emphasizing preview and review, neat handwriting, logical thinking, and oral English. Specific home-school strategies were provided for each subject. Through homeroom teacher sharing and parent discussions, each class built a strong link between school and family, supporting younger students in all aspects, from daily habits to character development.

This series of parent-teacher conferences helped parents gain a full and deep understanding of the school's educational ideas, overall plans, and grade-specific development goals. It further clarified the direction and methods of home-school cooperation. From the school's top-level educational design to tailored arrangements for each grade, the programs were well-structured and age-appropriate, building a solid support system for students' growth. In the future, the school will continue to work together with parents to support students' all-round development in academics, character, and abilities, helping them grow into capable young people with independence and a global vision.
