High School Chinese Department: Building a Literary Stage for Chinese Language Enthusiasts on an International Campus

April 10, 2026

On our high school campus, there is a WeChat public account beloved by both teachers and students — "Zhengming SHSID." It is not only the digital extension of the traditional Zhengming magazine but also a literary garden belonging to the students themselves. Here, young lovers of the Chinese language can freely publish original poetry, essays, fiction, and commentary, using words to record their thoughts, express their emotions, and engage in dialogue with the world.

Opening the posts of "Zhengming SHSID," one is delighted by the richness of the content. Take, for example, the student essay series Glimpses in the Gaps, which captures warm moments with family through delicate brushstrokes: Mulling Over Grandma's Sweet Rice Dumplings conveys the longing and sweetness in every bowl of dumplings made by Grandma; Grandma and the Scented Quilt is filled with the childhood scent of sunshine interwoven with cotton fabric. Between the lines, there is deep gratitude and affection for family — truly moving.

Beyond essays, the public account has also featured a series of film analyses, such as an in-depth interpretation of the classic film Farewell My Concubine. Students dissected character development, narrative tension, and thematic implications layer by layer, demonstrating a depth of thought beyond their years. Additionally, the complete script of last semester's student-adapted play Xia Luo's No Regrets was showcased on the platform. Humorous and creatively reimagined, the adaptation fully reveals the students' bold exploration of dramatic language.

"Zhengming SHSID" is well-illustrated and thoughtfully laid out. Each post feels like a delicate literary gift. It is deeply loved by teachers and students and carries a simple wish: to let more people see that within the multicultural soil of an international school, there is a group of young people who love Chinese language and are devoted to expression. At the same time, it opens its doors to all students who harbor literary dreams — as long as you have talent and passion, this is your shining stage.
