Hongkou Campus: Spring into Reading— "Reading Wonderland Month" Good Books are Blooming
Welcome to Our Blooming Garden!
As nature awakens this spring, so do the minds of our young learners! SHSID (Hongkou) is thrilled to kick off our month-long Reading Wonderland. Over the next four weeks, our campus will transform into a vibrant literary garden where students discover new genres, build confidence, and watch their love for reading bloom.

Here is a sneak peek at the magic happening this month:
Week | Genre | Highlights |
Week 6 | Fantasy | A campus-wide Book Swap Market! |
Week 7 | Realistic Fiction | Book Character Dress-Up Day & Live Stage Presentations! |
Week 8 | / | A magical Book Tasting Tea Party - Right on World Book Day! |
Week 9 | Non-Fiction | Cozy Family Reading Nights & Final Project Showcases! |
This Week’s Spotlight: The Magic of Fantasy
We are starting our journey by stepping into magical worlds! In Grade 1 classrooms, you can see wide, sparkling eyes and hear soft gasps of wonder during our Read-Aloud sessions. Teachers brought extraordinary tales to life, taking students on a thrilling time-travel adventure to the prehistoric age in Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark, and exploring the wondrous power of art and kindness through the classic Chinese folktale, The Magic Paintbrush. Meanwhile, in our cozy reading corners, Grades 2 and 3 students are sitting shoulder-to-shoulder for "Reading Buddies." It is truly touching to watch a student gently point to a colorful illustration, eagerly whispering to their buddy, "Just wait until you see what happens next!" Through these shared moments, they are not just reading words on a page; they are building empathy, passing on imagination, and growing together as readers.

Book Swap Market: Share the Seeds of Reading!
At SHSID, we believe that every time a book is shared, its magic multiplies. This Thursday’s campus-wide Book Swap Market was a beautiful testament to that! Days in advance, children carefully carried their gently used books from home, proudly trading them for "Swap Tokens." During the market, the venue buzzed with pure joy. The most heartwarming scenes were the impromptu recommendations: a student handing over their beloved fantasy novel to a classmate, promising with a bright smile, "You’re going to love this hero as much as I did!" By passing on these cherished stories, our young readers are learning the value of community, sustainability, and the profound thrill of discovering a "new-to-them" treasure.

Behind the Scenes: Preparing to Speak!
Reading is just the beginning; expressing ideas is the next step! This week, students are busy at home recording storytelling videos and preparing for upcoming live presentations. Stay tuned to see our confident young speakers take the stage next week!
Let the Magic of Reading Bloom!
A single seed has the power to grow into a magnificent garden, just as a single story has the power to shape a young mind's worldview. The Reading Wonderland Month at SHSID (Hongkou) is more than just a series of events—it is a celebration of curiosity, a testament to the power of shared imagination, and a commitment to nurturing lifelong learners. As the spring breeze fills our campus, these young readers are not just flipping through pages; they are discovering themselves, building empathy, and connecting with the wider world.

Let’s embark on this magical literary journey together, and witness how the seeds of reading planted today will bloom into boundless possibilities tomorrow!
