Puxi Campus G6: Scavenger Hunt: Encountering Spring on Campus

April 17, 2026

On the afternoon of March 26, students in Grade 6 from SHSID participated in a unique and creative Scavenger Hunt. Centered on the themes of "Walking, Creating, and Sharing," the activity guided students to observe, document, and express themselves in real-world settings. By collaborating in teams to complete a series of tasks, students perceived the campus's natural landscapes and cultural imprints from diverse perspectives, fostering a sense of belonging to the school through meaningful interaction.

Seeing Spring, and the Vitality of the Campus

On the lawn in front of Zhongxing Building, several students crouched beneath a tree, looking up at the newly sprouted tender leaves. The task prompt read: "Find a tree with a nameplate and read its name." They discover that many trees on campus have their own nameplates--perhaps this is the voice of the trees.

By Zhongxing Lake, several students are perched on the railing, waiting quietly to complete the task of "finding a bird on campus and taking a photo." As they wait, they hold their breath, focusing intently on the slightest movement along the lakeshore and in the treetops. Finally, a bird skimmed across the lake's surface, and the moment its wings spread was captured by the lens, becoming a vibrant highlight of this springtime exploration.

Witnessing Focus and the Power of Collaboration

On the basketball court, several children were crouched at the sidelines, holding their cameras motionless. Their task was to photograph "a basketball flying through the air toward the hoop." This challenge tested not only their photography skills but also their patience, teamwork, and ability to judge the right moment. They tried again and again, adjusting their angles each time, until finally, with a shout of "It's coming! It's coming!", they captured the perfect moment. The instant the shutter clicked, the basketball was suspended just above the hoop. The students gathered around to view the photo, excitedly giving each other thumbs-up.

Seeing Others, and the Warmth of Campus Life

The school building is vast, and countless people pass by every day. One assignment required group members to find a teacher who had never taught them, ask the teacher to recommend a favorite book, and take a photo together. One group encountered a foreign teacher, who enthusiastically pulled out a copy of The Little Prince: "I read this when I was your age, and I still love it to this day."

This brief exchange created a genuine connection between people who would otherwise have simply passed each other by, allowing students to experience the warm and beautiful relationships that exist among people on campus. The campus is not only a place for learning knowledge, but also a space for growth where students can continually discover and build connections.

Capturing Spring Through Posters, Expressing Passion Through Creativity

At around 3:30 p.m., students from each class returned to their classrooms one by one, their cameras filled with photos. These photos would be used to create posters to be shared with the class. The running figures, the funny faces, and the smiles captured on camera are the most vivid scenes of this spring on campus.

This activity is a grade-wide thematic educational initiative. Through task-based learning, teachers guided students to step out of the classroom and into the campus, encouraging them to make observations and discoveries through running and exploring. As they walked and interacted, every blade of grass, every tree, every brick, and every tile on campus--as well as every person quietly safeguarding it--became objects of the children's understanding and appreciation. This experience fostered a comprehensive enhancement of their perceptual abilities, empathy, and social cognition.
