Puxi Campus G7: A Spring Excursion into Craft and Culture

April 17, 2026

On April 9, Grade 7 students and teachers set out for a day at the Atmai Cultural Experience Park, embarking on a spring excursion that combined outdoor learning with cultural exploration. Blending hands-on activities with exposure to traditional crafts, the trip offered students a meaningful opportunity to engage with both nature and heritage.

1. Planting the Season: A Hands-On Start

The day began in the park's outdoor planting area, where students took part in a collaborative tree-planting activity. Working in teams, they planted young poplar trees, moving step by step through the process with focus and coordination. The atmosphere was lively, with conversation and laughter accompanying the work.

As the saplings were set in place, students added handwritten wish cards, marking the moment with a sense of purpose. The activity not only brought them closer to the natural environment but also encouraged a deeper awareness of responsibility and care.

2. Craft in Practice: Experiencing Tradition Firsthand

In the afternoon, the group moved indoors to explore traditional craftsmanship. Demonstrations of hand-operated looms offered insight into time-honored techniques, while displays of woven works highlighted the creativity that can emerge from simple materials.

Students then participated in a guided workshop using wild rice leaves, learning a traditional weaving method and creating their own small handcrafted pieces. As they worked through each step, initial uncertainty gave way to growing confidence. The process emphasized patience, precision, and attention to detail--qualities at the heart of craftsmanship.

By the end of the day, students left not only with their finished work but also with a richer understanding of the value of hands-on learning and cultural traditions. The experience offered more than a day outdoors; it provided a meaningful connection to both the past and the present, and a reminder of the importance of creating, preserving, and learning through doing.
