Hongkou Campus: Discover the World: A Celebration of Global Citizenship at Geo Fair 2026

April 20, 2026

Step into a world of culture, creativity, and connection as students at SHSID (HK) came together for this year's highly anticipated Geo Fair. Transforming the school cafeteria into a vibrant cultural hub across two floors, our Grade 2 and Grade 3 students invited their classmates and teachers to explore countries from around the globe through interactive displays, delicious foods, and hands-on learning experiences.

With a strong emphasis on Global Citizenship, this year's Geo Fair celebrated not only the diversity of our world but also the shared responsibility of understanding, respecting, and appreciating different cultures.

Preparation: Building Global Understanding

In the lead-up to the event, students engaged in meaningful inquiry through their Social Studies lessons, diving into the geography, culture, traditions, and unique characteristics of their assigned countries.

Grade 3 students took on a more independent and hands-on role than ever before. With Class 3-1 represented Thailand, Scotland, and France; Class 3-2 represented Cameroon, India, and Turkey, students worked collaboratively to design their stalls, research key facts, and create engaging presentations to share their learning with others. From visual displays to interactive elements, each group carefully planned how to best represent their country and communicate their knowledge.

Meanwhile, Grade 2 students explored their countries through creative triaramas, showcasing important artifacts and cultural elements by building models and designing backdrops to help share their knowledge of the countries they were representing. Class 2-1 created a bounty of beautiful artifacts to show from Australia, Peru, and Iceland, while Class 2-2 produced poignant portrayals of Russian, Swedish, and Moroccan artifacts.

A key highlight of this year's preparation was the spirit of Home-School Collaboration. Parents worked closely with teachers and students, supporting research, helping to prepare costumes, and contributing food and cultural items that brought each country to life. This partnership played a vital role in creating an immersive and authentic experience for all.

Geo Fair: A Journey Around the World

On the day of the event, students embarked on a global adventure armed with their Geo Fair Passports. As they traveled between booths across the two floors of the cafeteria, they recorded key facts about each country and collected stamps, marking their journey across continents.

Each booth offered a unique window into a different part of the world. Flags, traditional artifacts, and student-created displays filled the space, while interactive elements encouraged visitors to engage more deeply with each culture. Students eagerly asked questions, shared knowledge, and learned from one another, demonstrating curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the event.

The atmosphere was alive with discovery, as students not only explored new cultures but also practiced important skills of communication, inquiry, and reflection--key components of becoming globally minded learners.

Country Highlights: Around the World in One Afternoon

Each country inspired and amazed in different ways, sparking curiosity and inviting students to experience cultures through all their senses: Thailand, which catered to those exploring Southeast Asian cuisine with a delicious array of traditional foods and refreshing milk tea. Scotland put on a visual feast of green and tartan, beautifully showcasing the nation's rich traditions and cultural identity. France brought its cultural heritage to life through famous artworks, models of iconic museums, and elegant displays. Cameroon drew students into the rhythms of Africa with vibrant drum beats, traditional foods, and striking sculptures. India was a delight for all the senses, featuring traditional music, colorful costumes, aromatic incense, and a wide variety of foods. Turkey gave us a rich cultural fusion, highlighted by intricate textiles and the inviting aromas of Mediterranean spices. Australia became a crowd favorite, with a range of iconic animals and themed items for students to explore and take away. Peru offered a taste of the rainforest with a selection of fruity and plant-based snacks inspired by its natural landscape. Iceland let students have a glimpse of the Northern Lights through an immersive Aurora-themed tent experience. Russia showcased its history through traditional toys and cultural artifacts. Sweden introduced students to Viking heritage, complemented by the ever-popular Swedish meatballs. Morocco captivated visitors with its intricate patterns and rich, flavorful cuisine.

Empowering Global Citizens

Geo Fair 2026 was more than just an event; it was a celebration of learning, collaboration, and cultural appreciation! Through their participation, students deepened their understanding of the world and strengthened their ability to empathize with others from different backgrounds.

The success of the event was made possible through the combined efforts of students, teachers, and parents. The strong sense of Home-School Collaboration was evident in every detail, from the thoughtfully designed booths to the rich cultural experiences shared throughout the day.

As we reflect on this incredible journey around the world, we are reminded of the importance of nurturing globally aware, curious, and compassionate learners. Geo-Fair continues to be a powerful platform for inspiring students to explore, connect, and grow, proving that learning truly knows no borders.
