Pudong Campus: Grade 1 Study Tour to the Science and Technology Museum
As spring breezes gently blow, curiosity sets sail! To bring science lessons beyond textbooks and turn knowledge into tangible experiences, Grade 1 students from the Pudong Campus of SHSID embarked on an exciting journey to Neobio Science and Technology Museum. Filled with anticipation, the young learners started a wonderful science exploration adventure. They learned through play and gained abundant knowledge and joy throughout the trip.
The first stop led the children to discover the secrets of nature at the natural resource classification zone. A variety of stones and leaves with unique textures and vibrant colors immediately caught their attention. Acting as little scientists, the children squatted down to observe carefully and discuss softly. Drawing on what they had learned in science class, they carefully sorted different stones and leaves.
"This leaf has serrated edges, just like the maple leaves we saw in class!" "This smooth stone must be a cobblestone!" Tender voices echoed around. Every successful classification was accompanied by bright smiles, making textbook knowledge come to life through hands-on practice.
Next, fascinating power generation experiments greatly fueled the children's passion for exploration. With simple explanations and vivid demonstrations, instructors illustrated the basic principles of power generation. Watching electric current light up small bulbs, the children stared in amazement. They pressed switches to observe how electric current transmitted and worked visually. These intuitive experiments simplified abstract scientific concepts and planted seeds of curiosity about energy science in young hearts.
At the plate tectonics exhibition area, a huge plate movement map reminded students of the continents they had studied in science class. Instructors patiently explained the connection between plate movement and the formation of continents. Watching the slow movement of tectonic plates, the children seemed to travel back in time to witness the amazing evolution of landmasses.
The highlight was the earthquake simulation experience. Under professional guidance, students felt the shaking of earthquakes of different magnitudes. Thrilling yet educational, the activity also taught them vital safety skills. They practiced standard earthquake evacuation actions: bending down, covering their heads, and taking shelter in safe corners. This experience helped them master practical self-protection skills alongside scientific knowledge.
The mysterious and fascinating Space Museum captivated every child. Stepping inside, they were immersed in a cosmic world with dreamy blue lighting and realistic planet models. With the help of instructors, students made paper rockets and launched them together to the countdown of "3, 2, 1, launch!" Cheers and laughter filled the air as the rockets soared high. They also tried the moonwalk simulator to experience the wonder of weightlessness, just like real astronauts, sparking their dreams of space exploration.
The robot painting area was the most popular spot of the day. Robots captured the children's bright smiles and quickly turned them into delicate line drawings. The kids gathered around excitedly, sharing their unique portraits with each other. Some jumped for joy with their artworks, while others carefully kept their paintings as precious souvenirs, filled with happy memories.
Joyful time always flies fast. Before they knew it, the rewarding study tour came to an end. The children left the museum with great gains and reluctant hearts. Combining classroom learning with immersive practical experience, this outdoor activity allowed Grade 1 students to discover the charm of science and broaden their horizons. It greatly inspired their enthusiasm for exploration and scientific inquiry.
This unforgettable science journey will remain a precious childhood memory for every student. Serving as an expanded and vivid classroom, it helped children intuitively understand the mysteries of science. The seeds of scientific exploration will take deep root in their hearts, sprouting and growing steadily in the days ahead.
