Puxi Campus G7: Community & Responsibility Character Moral Education Program

May 11, 2026

A community is an important bond that connects people emotionally and brings collective strength together. It is also the starting point for the development of responsibility and public spirit. To help students better understand their roles and responsibilities within a group and develop a stronger sense of initiative and accountability, Grade 7 launched a four-week character education program themed "Community & Responsibility."

Centered around the four key ideas of participation, cooperation, responsibility, and action, the program guided students to develop a sense of collective responsibility gradually. It encouraged them to contribute to society through meaningful actions.

Participation: Understanding Personal Community

At the beginning of the program, students began a deep exploration of the concept of "community" during YD lessons. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and self-reflection activities, students came to understand that a "community" is not only a geographical space such as a neighborhood, but also includes many groups closely connected to our daily lives.Families are small communities filled with warmth; schools are larger communities for growth; clubs and interest groups are communities built around shared passions; even online communities are communities in which members carry responsibilities.Centered around the two key questions -- "What communities do I belong to?" and "What can I contribute to my communities?" -- students created personal community maps to reorganize the different communities they belong to and reflect on the roles they play within them.

At the end of the lessons, each class created a class display board using colorful drawings and vivid writing to showcase the emotional bonds within their class community. After class, students completed reflection journals, thinking about how small personal actions could bring warmth and strength to the communities around them.

Cooperation: Our Shared Communities

During the following week's morning meetings, students further explored the relationship between individuals and communities. They came to realize that personal growth depends on the support of a community, while the warmth of a community also relies on the care and contribution of every member.

At the same time, students recognized that many groups in society need care and support. Through discussion and exchange, they further understood that individuals should not only actively participate in collective affairs but also learn to empathize with others, respond to social needs, and spread kindness through both words and actions.

Responsibility: Local Community Awareness

In the third week of the program, students focused on the question: "How can we give back to the community through real actions?"

Student representatives from Grade 7 shared their own experiences and reflections on volunteering. Students also listened to charity stories shared by the twelve Grade 8 Service Learning groups.

Through these presentations and discussions, students deepened their understanding of public service and began thinking about how to turn their sense of responsibility into concrete actions.

Action: Community Action and Global Citizenship

During the last week of the program, students entered the preparation stage for the school's charity event, Global Citizen Day.

Grade 7 classes partnered with Grade 8 Service Learning groups to promote their projects and stories during GCD. Students worked collaboratively and enthusiastically: some groups carefully designed posters to promote charity ideas and raise awareness of social issues; others prepared items for charity sales, hoping to gather more support for charity.

From repeatedly refining activity plans to carefully organizing event logistics, from taking initiative in publicity work to responding flexibly to unexpected situations, students improved their organizational, communication, and collaboration skills throughout the process.

More importantly, they truly realized that public service is never achieved overnight through a single grand action, but rather through the accumulation of many small yet meaningful actions by individuals.

After the event, students completed reflections on the theme of "Responsibility and Community," reconsidering their roles and responsibilities as members of a community.

From Awareness to Action: Letting Growth Continue

At the conclusion of the program, Grade 7 recognized outstanding students who actively participated and demonstrated strong responsibility and teamwork as "Community Stars" during the grade assembly. Students were encouraged to continue showing responsibility and cooperation in their daily lives.

As the "Community & Responsibility" character education program came to a successful close, Grade 7 students completed a meaningful journey of growth centered around belonging, responsibility, and action.

From first understanding the many forms of community to learning the importance of cooperation and care, from recognizing real social needs to practicing responsibility through Global Citizen Day, students developed a stronger sense of social responsibility through continuous participation and reflection, while also gaining a deeper understanding of growth and accountability.

Although the program has officially ended, the thinking and learning surrounding community and responsibility will continue. The understanding developed through discussion, the trust built through cooperation, and the kindness expressed through action will continue to grow throughout students' future school lives.

It is believed that students will carry this sense of responsibility forward, bringing warmth and strength to the communities around them through future actions and experiences.
