Puxi Campus G6: Dodgeball Championship: A Game, A Lesson in Growth
To enrich the campus life of sixth-grade students and enhance their self-management and teamwork skills, ASB planned and organized the Sixth-Grade Dodgeball Championship this semester.
Since the beginning of the semester, ASB members have been preparing for this event. From designing the event plan and establishing the rules to coordinating venues, training referees, and maintaining order on-site, ASB members were fully involved, took the initiative, and refined every detail. After a month-long competition, the tournament successfully completed its preliminary rounds, rematches, and finals. For the participating students, it was a game filled with passion and challenges; for ASB members, it was a real-world experience in responsibility, collaboration, and personal growth.
Preliminary Rounds: Refining Rules Through Practice, Learning Organization on the Ground
At noon on March 24, the Sixth-Grade Dodgeball Championship officially kicked off. The opening match pitted Class 6(12) against Class 6(7).
Once the game began, players ran energetically, dodged nimbly, and attacked decisively; on the sidelines, students cheered enthusiastically, creating a lively atmosphere. ASB members maintained clear roles and worked together seamlessly to ensure the match proceeded smoothly.
After two intense sets, the teams ended in a tie. After the match, the referees noticed a controversial detail during the review of the first set, and Class 6(7) requested a rematch. Faced with the dispute, the ASB referees facilitated communication between both sides and discussed the matter based on the rules, the on-site situation, and the opinions of both teams. Ultimately, they ruled that a one-set rematch would be held on March 25. This minor incident also served as an important practical learning experience for the ASB members: organizing events requires not only enthusiasm but also an understanding of the rules, communication skills, and the ability to make fair judgments.
On March 25, the rematch took place as scheduled. The two teams faced off once more, with Class 6(12) ultimately winning the rematch. Compared to the first day, the ASB’s organizational work had matured significantly; within just two days, ASB members had grown from “initial attempts” to “orderly organization” through real-world experience.
The Final: A Battle of Total Commitment, A Testimony to Shared Growth
After a month-long tournament, the Grade 6 Dodgeball Championship reached its climax with the final match on May 7. The day was sunny, and many students gathered around the field to watch the game. ASB members arrived early to prepare and once again clarified their on-site responsibilities. Players from both teams began warming up early, high-fiving each other for encouragement and quietly discussing their tactical plans.
As the referee’s whistle blew, the final officially began. The two classes were evenly matched, with rapid shifts between offense and defense and a fast-paced rhythm. Players ran, dodged, passed, and counterattacked relentlessly on the court, demonstrating excellent athleticism and teamwork. Ultimately, Class 6(9) claimed the championship title through solid defense, agile dodging, and precise counterattacks.
After the match, Class 6(9) cheered for their victory, while Class 6(12) smiled and congratulated their opponents. Beyond the outcome, the students learned to respect the rules and their opponents, as well as to take responsibility and understand the importance of cooperation in group activities.
The Educational Significance Behind the Event
ASB organized this Dodgeball Championship with the aim of providing students an opportunity to relax and enhance communication amidst their demanding academic schedules through a simple yet fun sport. The competition not only allowed students to experience the joy of sports but also built bridges of interaction and connection between different classes.
From venue arrangements and rule explanations to on-site order maintenance and post-match debriefings, every detail reflected the dedication and hard work of ASB members. For the ASB, this was not merely an experience in “organizing an event,” but a valuable learning opportunity in organizational management, public service, and teamwork.
A single game brought classes together; a single event witnessed growth. In the future, the Sixth Grade ASB will continue to create more enriching and meaningful campus activities for students through more meticulous organization and more open participation, making campus life more vibrant, warm, and cohesive.
