During this year’s Career Day, numerous guest speakers from various industries shared their about their professional experience and valuable perspectives on future career paths with the students of SHSID. Guest speakers delivered engaging speeches and provided useful advice to attendees, for instance, Ms. Chu, the APAC CIO of Dow Chemical, informed us about the “invisible industry” in high-tech, the role of materials science and artificial intelligence in creating smartphones, electric cars, and smart factories, broadening our perspectives on a rapidly developing career domain. Other speakers such as skin care expert Ms. Shen explained how scientific discoveries become consumer products by showing the creation process of her freeze-dried acne serum, providing precious insight into career opportunities related to STEM subjects.

Other guest speakers also touched upon the idea of lifelong learning and adaptability in an ever-changing environment. For example, Mr. Larson shared his reflections about the lessons he had learned from having 20 different occupations and the physicist Mr. Li told his story of studying at Fudan University and doing research abroad, while finance specialist Ms. Yang gave lectures on initial public offerings and communication skills.

Students shared their thoughts and gains after attending the lectures:

The experience allowed her to form a more comprehensive understanding of the beauty industry, enabling her to acquire extensive knowledge in the health research and development field. This helped her to further perceive the professionalism of the industry, and broadened her career potentials.
