Pudong Campus: Tiny Scientists, Big Discoveries— Where Curiosity Meets the Future!

May 28, 2026

On the afternoon of May 21st, the SHSID Pudong campus transformed into a buzzing, high-energy mega-lab for this year's highly anticipated Science Fair. Our young scientists were bursting with excitement, ready to welcome fellow students, teachers, and parent judges into their wonderful worlds of discovery.

As a cradle for nurturing independent learners and global citizens, SHSID always encourages students to view the world through the lens of science. A full month before the opening bell rang, our students turned into "question machines," digging up fun, real-world puzzles from their daily lives.

Over the past four weeks, they rigorously followed the scientific method they mastered in class: identifying a problem, formulating a hypothesis, conducting experiments, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and sharing findings. Working side-by-side with their partners, they didn't just run experiments—they learned to think independently and tackle challenges like real scientists.

This year's project topics were nothing short of a creative explosion! Rather than just searching for abstract concepts, our young scientists proved themselves to be true independent learners by pulling inspiration directly from their school curriculum and daily lives. They blended science class, art class, and everyday experiences into pure magic, showing that scientific inquiry truly has no boundaries.

At SHSID, science is never confined to textbooks. Many students directed their curiosity toward the world around them, bringing scientific methods into the heart of daily life. For instance, some groups turned into "kitchen detectives," experimenting with different cooking techniques to find out which method gets an egg cooked the fastest. Others drew inspiration from their own health habits, using data to investigate how their favorite snacks may be secretly affecting their dental health. Even a simple piece of fruit became a subject of rigorous study, as students tested various storage materials to determine which bag reigns supreme in fruit preservation.

What was even more spectacular was how our students crossed disciplinary boundaries, perfectly embodying the well-rounded spirit of global citizens. Showing a beautiful blend of aesthetics and logic, some students drew inspiration from their art classes to ask a bold question: Does the exact order in which you mix colors change the final visual outcome? Meanwhile, other groups took the knowledge of physical and chemical properties straight from their science textbooks to the lab benches, testing ratios until they unlocked the ultimate formula for the perfect "slime."

These experiments are shining examples of how our students connect their classroom learning with the real world. They proved that with a spark of curiosity, every single corner of daily life can be turned into a fascinating, high-energy research lab!

The event proudly welcomed 14 parent volunteers with rich science backgrounds to serve as our guest judges. These "big scientists" listened intently to every presentation, asking insightful questions that challenged our young learners to reflect on and refine their experiments. Seeing our students stand tall, speaking with confidence and poise, left the judges thoroughly impressed by their creativity and enthusiasm!

As the Science Fair wrapped up, the air remained thick with excitement, pride, and inspiration. This event was much more than just a school exhibition—it was a true celebration of curiosity, teamwork, and the pure joy of discovery.

The Science Fair reminded us all that science isn't just about finding the perfect answer; it's about asking the right questions and embracing the thrill of the chase. With their dedication and vibrant creativity, these young minds demonstrated the exact qualities of future global problem solvers. We can't wait to see where their passion leads them next!
