Lin’gang Campus: Football Friendly Match

May 28, 2026

The sun was warm and the breeze gentle in the month of May. This week, second and third grade players from SHSID Lin’gang Campus and YWIES Shanghai Lin’gang Campus gathered once again on the green field for their annual football friendly – the third consecutive year the two schools have met on the pitch.

Before the match began, the young players lined up facing each other. They reached out their hands to shake and high-five, their eyes reflecting both anticipation for the game and respect for their opponents. This handshake, a pre-game ritual, has become the most familiar ceremony of their three-year green field tradition – friendship always comes before competition.

This marked the third football meeting between the two schools in the Lin’gang area. From their first encounter of getting to know each other, to the growing understanding in the second match, and now to this confident yet friendly battle – over three years, these young players have run, tackled, laughed, and grown together on the same pitch. Dressed in neat uniforms and full of spirit, their eyes showed both a desire to win and a warmth for old friends.

The friendly featured two matches: an A-team game and a B-team game. Each match consisted of two 15-minute halves. As the whistle blew, the players quickly found their rhythm, chasing the ball and competing with energy across the field.

In the A team match, both sides exchanged attacks and defenses frequently, creating a tense and exciting contest. Our young players displayed excellent teamwork and secured a 3-2 victory. The B team match was equally thrilling. The opponents scored first, but our players remained calm and quickly organized their counterattack, netting three goals in a row to take a 3-1 lead. Late in the game, the other team scored a stunning free kick to pull one back, but time ran out. The final score stood at 3-2, giving our team another win.

Two matches, two 3-2 results – every goal was hard-earned. On the pitch, there were cheers for goals scored, as well as words of encouragement after conceding. Some players fell and quickly got back up, and there were warm moments when opponents reached out a helping hand.

When the final whistle blew, win or lose, the young players once again joined hands and lined up to bow in thanks to their opponents, the referees, and the teachers and parents watching from the sidelines.

These young footballers from Lin’gang Campus are writing their own stories of growth – one run, one pass, one match at a time. And this three-year tradition on the green field has long surpassed the outcome of wins and losses. It has become a warm and lasting testament to friendship on the shores of Lin’gang.

The match may end, but the love for the game never fades. Until next time – see you on the pitch!
