Puxi Campus G1-3: Charity Fair: Building Dreams with Childlike Hearts, Spreading Kindness Far and Wide
On May 27, 2026, students from Grades 1 to 3 at the Puxi Campus of Shanghai High School International Division held a charity fair themed "Building Dreams with Childlike Hearts, Spreading Kindness Far and Wide." As part of the school's character education program for lower primary students, the event focused on cultivating empathy and compassion, encouraging children to develop kindness and a sense of social responsibility through hands-on experience.
During the preparation stage, teachers shared touching real-life stories and heartfelt wishes from the beneficiaries of the fundraiser, helping students understand the true meaning of charity. Seeds of kindness, responsibility, and compassion were quietly planted in the children's hearts. They came to understand that no act of kindness is ever too small, and that even the simplest gestures can bring warmth and hope to others.

Motivated by genuine care and a desire to help children in need, the students enthusiastically took part in every aspect of the event preparation. They independently planned activities, collaborated in teams, and actively contributed ideas. From carefully sorting through books, stationery, and toys to creating hand-drawn charity posters and designing creative booth themes, every detail reflected the children's sincerity and imagination. At the same time, they applied classroom learning to real-life charitable practice, strengthening their communication, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills through discussion and cooperation.
On the day of the event, the booths were neatly arranged and filled with a dazzling variety of items: imaginative handmade crafts, fun and adorable toys, and delicious snacks and treats. The rich assortment attracted students, teachers, and parents alike. The children transformed into energetic "young shopkeepers," confidently greeting customers, introducing products enthusiastically, handling payments and change, recording sales, and maintaining booth order with remarkable responsibility and care.

The fair also featured a strong artistic atmosphere. Third-grade students presented a variety of charity performances, including piano, violin, and flute pieces, as well as solos and ensembles. There were also elegant guzheng and flute collaborations, beautiful vocal performances, graceful dances, and lively street dance routines. These performances added artistic charm to the bustling event and allowed children to experience the beauty of the arts while participating in charity and spreading kindness.

Teachers actively supported and participated in the fair as well, with each grade level creating themed teacher-run booths that reflected their unique learning focus. First grade incorporated themes from the whole-book reading project Fresh Classroom, creating an engaging booth that brought stories and ideas from the book into the lively market setting, making reading vivid and interactive. In addition, first grade designed four themed "growth mindset seed cards," symbolizing intellectual growth and the gathering of kindness, encouraging children to broaden their thinking and nurture compassionate hearts.

Second grade focused on traditional folk culture by showcasing students' handmade cultural and creative works inspired by the Twenty-Four Solar Terms. Through childlike creativity, ancient seasonal traditions were brought to life in fresh and imaginative ways. Connected to the "Moments of Love, Wishes Come True" tenth birthday celebration theme, third grade also unveiled its booth featuring beautiful creative products. Through these works, students shared love, preserved meaningful memories of growth, and expressed heartfelt hopes for the future.
The success of this charity fair would not have been possible without the tremendous support of parents. Parent volunteers carefully helped organize the booths and worked closely alongside teachers and students throughout the event. Through strong home-school collaboration, the children were given authentic opportunities for social practice, allowing character education and moral values to be experienced in real life.
With childlike hearts carrying great love, small lights can shine far into the distance. This charity fair successfully integrated character development, cultural heritage, and practice, helping students build social responsibility and global citizenship awareness. Through sharing, the children spread warmth; through action, they learned responsibility.
Although the event has come to an end, the spirit of kindness continues. Every small act of goodwill is like a seed quietly taking root in the children's hearts, destined one day to grow into towering trees of compassion and responsibility. May this warmth continue to spread outward from the campus, lighting the way toward an even brighter future.
