2026 TEDxYouth@SHSID: Solving the "Human Equation" — Rationality and Warmth in the Age of Technology

June 11, 2026

On June 6, the 2026 TEDxYouth@SHSID was successfully held at Shanghai High School International Division. Centered on the theme "Human Equation", the event brought together distinguished guest speakers and outstanding student presenters from different grade levels. Against the backdrop of booming artificial intelligence, participants delved into the interplay between technology and humanity, and shared insights into humanity’s unique warmth, empathy and creativity. Covering technology, art, sports, environmental protection and social empathy, the event delivered a thought-provoking feast of ideas for all teachers and students present.

The first half featured a diverse lineup consisting of four invited external experts and four student speakers, including two students from primary and junior high school and two from Grade 9. Professional perspectives blended with youthful viewpoints, sparking wonderful collisions of ideas. Industry experts and alumni shared in-depth insights into the cutting-edge applications and future trends of AI in autonomous driving, encouraging young people to embrace technological changes and take on missions in scientific and technological innovation. They also stressed that in an algorithm-driven era, human integrity, morality and on-the-ground leadership are irreplaceable by artificial intelligence.

Student speakers from various grade levels shared sincere reflections based on their own experiences. They discussed the unique value of art and human thinking, as well as how AI facilitates environmental protection. They advocated embracing imperfections and cherishing genuine interpersonal bonds. Drawing on sports experiences, the students noted that people should not be confined by algorithms and data, for genuine emotions and the journey itself matter far more than standardized results.

The second half was dedicated to student presentations. In total, eight student speakers took the stage, voicing their thoughts from a peer perspective. They believed that authentic art with imperfections is the source of human creativity. Combining personal growth experiences, they talked about balancing rational thinking and sensibility, and explored the essence of innovation and empathy. The students also called on young people to break boundaries and embrace a global vision. They illustrated that the perseverance and dedication embodied in sports are strengths that technology can never replicate.

The event concluded with a closing speech after a well-organized and engaging session. It conveys a core message: technology transforms the world, while humanity warms hearts. In the digital age, young people need not pursue perfection defined by algorithms. Instead, they should learn to embrace imperfections, stay true to themselves, connect with others bravely and keep creating. This event has broadened students’ horizons and cultivated their critical thinking. It guides them to stay independent-minded, compassionate and globally-minded, and uphold human virtues amid the wave of technological advancement.
