Grade 11: Company Visits to Empower Career Planning

June 12, 2026

On the afternoon of June 10, SHSID Grade 11 students embarked on a career exploration journey full of discovery and inspiration. To provide students with precise and personalized career exposure, the school carefully designed this Company Visit Day. Students chose their destinations based on their interests and career plans, and visited leading companies and institutions across various fields, including intelligent manufacturing, information technology, healthcare, high-end manufacturing, cultural tourism services, and higher education, beginning a unique journey of industry exploration.

At Intel Asia-Pacific R&D Center, students stepped into the global forefront of semiconductor and computer chip development, experiencing the hardcore charm of chip manufacturing and digital technology up close, and learning about the underlying logic and future directions of the information technology industry.

“I visited Intel today. During the tour, I learned why Moore’s Law — which refers to the doubling of transistor density — is vital to the company, as it was emphasized repeatedly. As a visitor to this leading tech firm, I was amazed by the rapid pace of technological progress and how FinFETs are engineered to become increasingly compact.”

At Shanghai STEP Electric Corporation, students explored the application of motion control technology in smart elevators, industrial robots, and other fields, gaining insight into how intelligent manufacturing provides one-stop solutions for enterprises.

“Visiting STEP’s workshop and history museum gave me a vivid understanding of intelligent manufacturing. From early industrial milestones to today’s high-speed robotic arms, every exhibit demonstrated the deep integration of AI with the physical world. Watching robotic arms skillfully perform gripping, welding, and assembly made me realize that technology is not just code and algorithms; it is the driving force behind industrial transformation. This experience sparked my strong interest in robotics engineering and control systems. It also deepened my appreciation of the innovation and engineering excellence behind ‘Intelligent Manufacturing in China.’”

At ZF, students dove into the R&D and production of automotive drivetrain components, experiencing the precision engineering and industrial power of manufacturing.

“ZF has given us a completely new understanding of the automotive industry. The exhibition hall displays actual internal assembly components and core structures of various vehicles. Through the teacher's explanation, we gained insights into the overall vehicle structure, parts development, sales systems, after-sales service, and the company's current economic status, providing me with a realistic experience and deep aspiration for the future prospects of mechanical engineering and business economics.”

At Ctrip Computer Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., students visited a benchmark company in the online travel industry, learning how cultural tourism technology is transforming the way people travel, and exploring the innovative application of data and intelligence in travel services.

“Our group visited Ctrip's headquarters in Shanghai, where we experienced everything from the brand's history and culture to the real-life work environment of its employees. We saw as a brand deeply embedded in people's travel experiences, how Ctrip continues to expand its business, with plans to further penetrate overseas markets and make global travel more convenient for everyone.”.

At Shanghai Surveying and Mapping Institute, students were introduced to professional work in geographic information surveying and underground pipeline detection, understanding how surveying and mapping technologies support urban development and construction.

“This visit has been profoundly enlightening as to how maps of the city of Shanghai have been made over time. We saw that urban surveying is highly related to mathematics, including geometry, vectors, and statistics, reflecting how many lines of work and directions of inquiry often lead to mathematics when they are explored deeply enough. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience that demonstrated how passion and academic rigor intersect in professional settings, allowing students to see a possible way to approach their own interests and futures.”

At INTCO Medical, students learned about the R&D and application of medical consumables and rehabilitation medical devices, experiencing the responsibility and human touch of the healthcare industry.

“Participating in the company visit event at Intco Medical was a truly rewarding experience. During the visit, I learned about the wide applications of gloves produced by Intco Medical: they are crucial not only to the medical industry but also to the food industry. As they are committing to global healthcare, a company’s functional departments such as the sales and foreign trade are also striving to keep the company running. This event not only broadened my perspectives but also motivated me to pay more attention to the potential of the healthcare industry.”

At East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, students entered university laboratories in advance, immersing themselves in the academic atmosphere of chemistry and materials science, and exploring cutting-edge research in scientific fields.

“Professor Wang and his team demonstrated the diverse applications of chemical knowledge in daily life through their award-winning “Orchid Extract Perfume,” allowing us to further reflect on how our knowledge can serve the public good. Through warm exchanges with the faculty and students, we not only gained a glimpse of university life in advance but also developed a clearer understanding of our future personal and professional development paths.”

At INTCO Recycling, students stepped into the high-tech resource recycling field, learning about the operations of recyclable resource collection, regeneration, and utilization. They observed up close the circular processing technologies for solid waste such as foam, as well as the intelligent equipment involved, explored the innovative models of the green and low-carbon industry, and gained insight into the environmental philosophy and technological power behind the circular economy.

“During my visit to Intco Recycling , we first saw finished products made from recycled plastic such decorative moldings, flooring, and even ceiling panels. It was surprising to see how polished and durable these materials looked. I had never imagined that waste plastic could become something so useful for homes and buildings. This experience changed how I think about recycling. Recycling system is capable of turning trash into everyday products that people actually want to buy. Showing us that things even as waste can of meaningful purposes and lead mankind to more sustainable practices in the future.”
