Cyanobacteria's Recycle Day Concludes Successfully

June 15, 2026

On June 12, 2026, Cyanobacteria, a sustainability-focused club, held Recycle Day during lunchtime. The event highlighted how sustainability can connect with multiple disciplines through collaborations with other clubs.

Cyanobacteria partnered with the Economics Club, recognizing that economics is closely related to people’s incentives and explores how businesses can remain profitable while promoting sustainability. They also collaborated with Eco Cap, another environmental science club dedicated to raising awareness through education, which sold its environmental magazines during the event.

Desks were set up in the busiest area of the ZXB building during lunch, and snacks were prepared to encourage participation. Two recycling bins were placed at the booth to collect delivery bags and single-use plastic bottles. Students were invited to personalize the bins with stickers, making recycling both convenient and interactive. After contributing a recyclable item, participants could answer an economics-related question connected to sustainability. Regardless of whether their answers were correct, organizers explained the concepts and related them to the day’s theme.

Students were then encouraged to complete a survey investigating plastic use within our school community. The survey will help us evaluate future initiatives and involve more students in sustainability efforts next semester.

Besides interactive activities, the event also featured an art installation created in collaboration with an art student from our grade. She generously dedicated her time to constructing a jellyfish sculpture, with tentacles made of strings suspending single-use plastic bottles, serving as a striking reminder of plastic pollution. The first thing visitors saw when approaching the booth was a data wall displaying urgent environmental statistics through colorful shapes and visuals, transforming information into an engaging and thought-provoking experience.

The activity was a great success and attracted numerous teachers and students. Through Recycle Day, participants experienced the interdisciplinary nature of sustainability—it can be expressed through art, economics, data science, environmental science, or business. No matter what subject interests you, as long as you are aware of the threats posed by environmental pollution, you can do your part to protect the Earth in your own way.
