SHSID Foreign Teachers Attended the 2024 World Digital Education Conference

February 1, 2024

From Jan. 29 to 31, the 2024 World Digital Education Conference was held in Shanghai. 19 speakers from throughout China and the world at large addressed a packed room of teachers and educational professionals in session 5 of the World Digital Education Conference. Among the group of avid professionals were 14 of SHSID's foreign staff, nestled in the center of the room and excited to glean what insights they could.

The title of the forum, "Challenges and Opportunities of Digital Transformation for Basic Education," was expansive enough to allow for a diverse array of perspectives while still bringing utility to the conversation. The specific topics addressed by the expertly curated panel ranged from using digital tools to bridge the gap between underserved communities and cosmopolitan centers like Shanghai, to responsible approaches to data collection, to novel, data-driven changes to teaching approaches (even to the organization of teaching spaces themselves), to frameworks for accrediting digital learning coursework.

Like the rest of the visitors, SHSID teachers were provided simultaneous translation devices and were able to fully and seamlessly enjoy both the Chinese and English presentations. From Mr. Michael Richards' aetiology of the University of California Riverside's digital collaboration with other UC campus programs to Mr. Sun Lei's insights on how digital learning tools have reinvigorated Confucian ideals in education, the wealth and breadth of experiences brought to bear in the panel represented a unique and fruitful opportunity for everyone.

SHSID teachers walked away from the experience with a better understanding not only of what professionals all over the world have overcome and accomplished using digital technology, but how to better serve their students in that same vein.
