IAAMUN: Youth Is Now
“Youth is Now”, and in an era of global challenges, fostering both global values and diplomatic skills among students is of utmost importance. This sentiment was emphasized at IAAMUN, a conference hosted and organized by SHSID’s International Affairs Association MUN club. On November 3, passionate students gathered from various grades to find solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues. IAAMUN included the UNODC and the Legal Committee, one tackling the refugee crisis and the other on the legality of lethal autonomous weapons.
The event was not only an excellent opportunity for students to practice their skills in various aspects, but also helped demonstrate the significance of community-driven initiatives in shaping future leaders. Throughout the course of IAAMUN, students were tasked with representing specific countries and navigating the complexities of international relations through debate, lobbying, and resolution writing. This experience helped students broaden their understanding of global affairs, improve their public speaking abilities, and foster their teamworking skills. It was truly inspiring to observe students consider the topics from numerous perspectives and work together as a community. At the end of the day, delegates from each committee produced draft resolutions as a solution to their committee topic.
The preparation for the conference was a collaborative effort—students and teachers worked together to plan the conference. IAAMUN was a testament to the IAA’s and SHSID’s dedication towards nurturing future leaders, and we hope that this experience helps to prepare more students tackle the complex issues of the future. The IAA plans to host more of these conferences, bringing together more students and empowering them to create their own paths.
