Grade 10 Assembly: Conquer the Mountains and Ourselves
Wednesday morning, May 17, Alan from Class 10(11), gave a speech on his beloved sport of rock climbing to G10 students.
Alan first described the development process of rock climbing, and then began to introduce the classification of rock climbing - gym climbing and outdoor climbing. Indoor climbing is no longer affected by the climate and is more safe, and as it is more widely spread and has a larger audience, he focused on describing the sub-components of indoor climbing and hoped that climbing could spread more widely. In indoor climbing, which is mainly classified as bouldering, route climbing, and speed climbing, he carefully explained the characteristics of each type through a series of photographs and illustrations. Bouldering, for example, as he put it, is a technical climbing activity with a height of only about five meters and cushioned underneath, and it is generally possible to use special techniques and does not require wearing protective equipment.
Then, Alan began to briefly promote outdoor rock climbing. In addition to the classic wild bouldering, or wildly difficult climbing, he also promoted ice climbing - climbing ice walls, Alpine climbing - group climbing on mountains and extremely shocking bare-hand climbing, the free-solo climbing showcased via wonderful pictures. In his PPT, several pictures of free soloists brought great shock to the teachers and students who were listening.
Allan said that "free soloing is the purest, shocking rock-climbing sport; without using any protective equipment, it’s the ultimate challenge in the sky." Finally, he recommended several movies about rock climbing that are worth watching and left a famous saying: "Climbers conquer not mountains, but themselves."
