Beaming Blue: the SHSID Stallions Gleam in Two Consecutive Swim Meets

April 18, 2023

As the familiar whistle blows, the SHSID Stallions dive into the swimming season once again. During the past few energizing weeks of spring, the SHSID Stallions Swim Team shined in both Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center (OSC) for the OSC Star Invitational Challenge Swim Meet and Beijing's Yingdong Natatorium for the WOW Age Group Swimming Series Beijing. In Shanghai, the beaming blue of the aqua Stallions roared once again in competitions and achieved magnificent outcomes: three gold medals, three silver medals, four bronze medals, and as many as 52 top-eight finishes. Many of our athletes also showcased their unlimited talents and dedication in training, achieving high results in Beijing.

The glories in the pool are never achieved overnight, but rather through daily commitments in intense training sessions. This is exactly what the Stallion swimmers have been working on since the beginning of the semester. Within the past month, the Stallions faced a tight schedule with three competitions and gained valuable lessons from each of them. Reflections are crucial for swimmers as this process helps them dwell on their past mistakes and prevent them from occurring in the future.

Here are some reflections from swimmers representing their age groups:

"The meet was much larger in scale and a lot more competitive. Some competitors were even professional swimmers in my age group, but I wasn't afraid; instead, I was confident that I was going to win a medal. I ended up breaking my personal best record again in freestyle. Although I didn't win every race, I learned that competitions are not only about winning but also about having fun and trying your best."

"I grabbed the edge of the diving platform with both hands, bent my back, and was ready to dive into the pool. The coach's technical instructions echoed in my head repeatedly, and I swam forward at my fastest speed. There was only one belief in my heart, and that was to do my best to go forward! Although the result was not particularly ideal, it was already my personal best record.”

"I want to thank my coach for helping me relax both my mentality and muscle cramps before the final of 100 meters freestyle. It was a vital factor that helped me receive my personal best."

- Olivia Wu 5(3)

"For the U15 swimmers, many of us took on more challenging events, and all of us pushed ourselves towards the final touchpad. Besides our hardworking Stallions, the coaches and parents who helped throughout the competition deserve their own medals for their efforts in making the competition successful and smooth."

The three competitions in spring reflected the importance of continual devotion in training for every swimmer in the Stallions Swim Team. In order to excel in future competitions such as the Rocket Science Swim Meet in May, the Stallions will not halt their grind in the pool as they recognize that practice makes perfect. The blue and gold will once again stand out in the water!
