Grade 9 Assembly: Looking Deeply into the Night Sky
On Tuesday, March 14, Grade 9 students met in ZT lecture hall for their weekly assembly. First, Ms. Yu Zhen reminded every student of the PA lecture that was to take place later that afternoon, which was about starting an engineering program. Then David from class 9(13) went on stage to share his interest in astrophotography. David briefly explained the definition and commonly used tools in astrophotography and differentiated it from photography. In contrast to normal photography, astrophotography is something in which the observer cannot control the lighting or position of the faraway celestial bodies. Thus, it requires both expensive equipment and a lot of experience (and work). David said his hobby allows him to put his brain to the test while working with somewhat limited equipment. At last, he presented some of the photos he took, including the moon, Orion Nebula, and Sirius A. Despite his claim that he was not good at astrophotography, the photos showed his skill; hopefully, his relentless pursuit will inspire other students to continue pursuing their hobbies.
