Grade 12: Calligraphy Sharing

March 9, 2023

On the morning of March 3, Joyce Yu from Class 12(4) introduced traditional Chinese culture through the art form of calligraphy and shared some of her works.

We define calligraphy as a piece of work, and all written works are collectively referred to as art. Calligraphy evolved from oracle-bone inscriptions in the Shang Dynasty to gold inscriptions carved on bronze vessels in the Warring States period. After the unification of the Qin Dynasty, the official script came into being. With the migration of time through the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern, and Tang Dynasties, calligraphy evolved into the regular script, running script, cursive script, and so on. At the same time, Joyce also introduced the Song typeface, and the output of the prosperous Song Dynasty— a simple-version printer. As early as the Song Dynasty, Song typeface became the standard typeface for printing.

Joyce showed her passion and effort for calligraphy and encouraged people to pursue what they love and to persevere and face their difficulties even when encountering obstacles.
