G8: Basketball Final
Recently, students have had fewer chances to exercise and less time to partake in sports. Thankfully, our considerate ASB members have proposed organizing a basketball tournament during the YD period on the 1st December to let the students stretch their muscles and move around. The first round of preliminaries was a 3-on-3 basketball match. The men's basketball teams and women's basketball teams of each class played wheels during lunch breaks.
The wind blew softly across the cold outdoor basketball courts at SHSID. The young athletes used all of their efforts and techniques, hoping to win honor for their homerooms.
Every move of the players is very important - attack, defense, passing and scoring. A careless mistake might mean their team loses the chance to score and seal their homeroom’s victory. As the final game started, all players kept their eyes intensely on the ball and began to attack smoothly. From layups to three-pointers, a score would bring a running student across the basketball court while their classmates celebrated and their homeroom teachers recorded all highlights on their phones.
As time went on, the players flooded the court with the sporting spirit. A player’s mistake was turned into motivation through the crowd’s cheers, and a score energised their body like an engine. As they had agreed before the game, teammates knew when to catch and throw the ball with a simple look from their team members. Even if someone made a mistake, their teammates would still pat them on the shoulder and give them a nod, as if saying “you can do this”. When players bumped into each other, they would not forget to say ‘sorry’ even as the game continued.
Due to time limit, the men's basketball finals have been postponed to this Friday. After a fierce competition, the two women's basketball teams (8-456 VS 8-123) in the final ended today's game with the victory of the 8-123 team!
Regardless of the final results, cheers and encouragement instantly filled every corner of the classroom when players returned to their homerooms. Despite the profuse sweating of the players, their classmates couldn't help but give them a huge hug.
This competition not only taught the students the power of teamwork and sportsmanship to face both setbacks and successes, but it also gave the students who loved sports a chance to shine, adding vitality to their junior high school campus life. Let’s look forward to the wonderful men’s basketball finals!
