Middle School Section: The Sound of a Warm Winter—Music Concert Flashmob of Art Festival

December 20, 2021

On December 7th, the cold air has arrived, but it cannot disperse the warmth in the air. A beautiful and engaging concert was held by the grade-eight service-learning group MFP (Music for People) members at the Zhongxing building atrium, which opened this week’s flashmob and the Art Festival in the upcoming week.

As the organizer of the musical session, Ocean from class 8-8 recruited his friends and organized the activity. This temporary but professional band has two violinists: Claire from class 8-6 and Maegan from class 8-8, two students from class 8-9: clarinet by Bobby, euphonium by Zion, and pianist Enzo from class 8-11.

In this concert, they presented two songs: “Coastal Town” and “My Memory.” Ocean adapted the music with his profound professional knowledge and deep perception and understanding of music and harmonized the sound of each instrument perfectly. The members actively used their spare time and practiced very hard. Finally, it was performed to every student and teacher as perfectly as possible today.

The first song “Coastal Town”, composed by Joe Hisaishi, is the music of the animator Hayao Miyazaki’s animation “Kiki's Delivery Service(魔女の宅急便).” The rhythm of the whole song was light, and the movement of notes brought happiness to the audience. The second song is “My Memory” from the Korean TV series “Winter Sonata.” The beautiful melody slowed the students’ steps and eased their moods. Finally, before the end, Enzo impressed a piece of Chopin, “Winter Wind” for the audience with his superb piano skills. Although the students in the Zhongxing building hurried to class during the performance, they still couldn’t help stopping to enjoy the music brought by the outstanding group of performers.

It was the singing concert on the 2nd day, Dec. 9th. Sean from class 8-3, Kevin from class 8-2, Dwight from class 8-6, and Eason from class 8-10 brought the audience the song “稻香” by Jay Chou. It was a unique and creative performance with a duo dance. Claire of Class 8-6 is very versatile. She wrote a song “My Space” to her sister who went to university in the US, expressing her love feelings to her sister in this song. The beautiful timbre of Ukri’s, accompanied by her affectionate singing, echoed in the hall of the Zhongxing building, which could resonate with many audiences. The third song was “No Time to Die” brought by Tony of class 8-7. It is the theme song of the film 007: No Time to Die, composed by Billie Eilish and Phineas O’Connell. The overall music style was melancholy and the piano added a mature and steady color to the whole song.

Dec. 10th was the last wonderful day of the flashmob. The first dance “Position” is performed by Gloria of class 8-1 and Avery of class 8-4. “Position” is a song mainly sung by Ariana Grande, and their dance was very brilliant. Then came the dance “Boss” brought by Sami and Cassie of class 8-4. The original tune is “Run The World” sung by Beyonce. The four experienced dancers poured their feelings and showed the rhythm and power of life by dancing.

From the warm applause of the audience, the performing students realized the appreciation of the audience. It must be a real pleasure to bring happiness to others!

The performers have spent a lot of time practicing from the planning to the performance for the past three weeks. Although the overall effect was good, there were inevitably some mistakes. One member of the band said, “If we have another opportunity like this next time, we will practice more at home and practice the part we are responsible for better, rather than trying to play when we have to row together at school. Although there is still much to be improved, the performance came to a successful end. The process was super enjoyable!” We hope everyone is super content in this warm winter!
