Puxi Campus Grades 4-5:Career Day is Another Learning Way

On April 29th , fourth and fifth-grade students in SHSID welcomed career day. We are honored to have eleven parents to share their unique working experiences in the science and technology industry, financial industry, legal industry, and so on. Their presentations provided students with real and vivid opinions from within the field, broadening students’ view of career opportunities and stimulating the exploration of self-interests.

Grade four students gathered in the primary school auditorium during personal growth class. Ella’s dad, from 4(2), shared his learning and working experience in scientific research and starting a business. He explained the process of developing bio-pharmaceutical technology and the impacts on our lives and health. At last, he provided several pertinent suggestions to students who are ambitious in becoming scientists, such as self-teaching skills and stay curious.

Yuki’s mom’s, from class 4(3), presentation was titled “Everyone is a Developer.” She shared her job as a programmer and encouraged students to develop abilities such as gaining information and knowledge from multiple channels, analyzing and solving problems, and innovating.

The topic of Brian’s dad’s speech, from class 4(4), was “The Gold Key of Investment—the Power of Compound Interest,” disclosing the fun and magic inside the financial industry. After listening to the story of the Native Americans selling Manhattan, students were amazed by the magic of numbers and calculation.

Fiona’s mom, from class 4 (7), spoke on the classic judicial case of Abraham Lincoln, vividly introducing the work of a lawyer. With the revealing of the case, students experienced court trial, stating the testimony, defending, and a series of steps with solving the case. It gave students a genuine experience of being a lawyer.

Fifth grade invited parents who have made considerable achievements in their respective professional fields to speak to our 5th-grade students on Career Day. Through the speakers, students were allowed to broaden their horizons and develop their ideas on their future careers.

Eleanor’s mom, from 5(1), shared her creative expertise by helping students cultivate their creativity and inspiring innovative thinking through new and imaginative designs.

Bingyi’s dad, from 5(2), introduced the students to the world of financial investment. By way of thought-provoking questions, the students learned unfamiliar financial terms and concepts.

Isabella’s mom, from 5(2), shared some fun facts about hotel management. She introduced different types and styles of hotels relevant to her own field of work. Then, following the theme of “a Hotel as a Business,” she shared with the students how small actions can make a big difference by discussing the delicate balance of maximizing tourists’ enjoyment and a hotel’s profit.

As a renewable energy engineer, Owen’s dad, from 5(5), shared knowledge about renewable energy and discussed the daily work of an energy engineer. He then made suggestions for any students who might be interested in the field.

Kelly’s dad, from class 5(6), works in genetic technology and development research. Through a fascinating Q&A, the students learned about profound, cutting-edge technological developments and discussed the future applications of this technology in many areas of life.

Joyce’s mom, from 5(6), introduced the magic of compound interest to the students in her presentation titled “Talking About Investment.” She also discussed methods for evaluating a company and what makes a company strong.

Aaron’s dad, from 5(8), introduced one of the Fortune 500 Companies he works for. The company embodies a spirit of innovation and uses advanced technology to provide comfortable, effective, safe and energy-saving environments for thousands of businesses, institutions, and government buildings around the world.

To conclude, we sincerely appreciate all the parents who shared their precious thoughts and experiences with the students, planting small seeds in the hearts of fourth and fifth-grade students. It helped students to think about their interests, know their abilities, and encouraged students to work towards their goals. We hope through hard work, the seeds will someday strike roots, sprout, and grow up into lush trees.
