Grades 11-12: Fire Drill in Xianmian Building

April 29, 2021

On April 27th, alarms blared throughout the halls of the Xianmian building at the tail end of the morning classes, just a few minutes before lunch. This was the start of a fire drill.

Having undergone dozens of these drills over their years on campus, the juniors and seniors swiftly exited their classrooms and proceeded to the first floor where they were meet with billowing clouds of smoke emanating from the front door. As the students gathered in front of the building, it appeared as if the grey clouds blanketing the city had descended upon the façade of the structure. The vibrant green of the plants and grass were discolored by the dark smoke that covered the building from wall to wall.

Like all the other times they had efficiently completed the drill, this one was no different. They all managed to remove themselves in an orderly fashion to the outside with no stragglers being left within the building. It wasn’t long before the smoke dissipated and the students were allowed to reenter the building, shortly thereafter being allowed to leave as the lunch bells rang in the end of the drill.
