Grade 8: MUN—Virtual Conference, Actual Gains

March 12, 2021

PUXIMUN 2021 was held from March 5th to March 7th. 22 students from SHSID attended. Although the conference was held online due to COVID-19, it did not affect the participants’ enthusiasm or achievements.

During the conference, delegates discussed three vital topics related to the global economy: illicit financial flows, the green economy, and the economic effects of COVID-19. Considering the subject of COVID-19 is a core dilemma involving the entire world, most delegates selected this topic. As a group, delegates had to draft a resolution or proposed solution aiming to solve the issues. Then, they made amendments offering changes to the resolutions or solutions.

On the second day of PUXIMUN, delegates passed all recommendations that addressed the economic consequences of COVID-19. After the chair sent out the resolutions, hundreds of amendments arrived at the chair’s email. Each delegate tried to perfect the solution by considering problems such as feasibility and ambiguity. Eventually, all four of the submitted resolutions passed, and hundreds of speeches and questions were presented. Looking back, the delegates spent productive time at the PUXIMUN conference, trying to solve crises around the world in all fields, from health to economics.

Finally, congratulations were due to Rin Murakoso 8(8) in HSC, Carrie Wang 7(7) in Enviro, and Alex Wang 7(10) in the Disarmament Committee for winning the Best Delegate award; Daniel Lu 8(8) in Enviro, and Geoffrey Ku 8(4) in ECOSOC for winning the Outstanding Delegate award; and Cheryl Lu 8(11) in ECOSOC for winning the Most Improved delegate award.
