April 17, 2020

April is one of the most beautiful months of the year. In this special time, the Chinese Culture Week, which both teachers and students of grades 4 and 5 are looking forward to, will begin next week. The annual Chinese Culture Week aims to stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese and enhance their understanding and recognition of Chinese culture.

The Chinese Culture Week will be held from the 20thto the 24thof April, and the theme is “Mystery”. The prelude to culture week has begun, and some activities are already in full swing. The teachers have adapted and recorded the theme song ”Chinese Youth” and put on traditional Chinese clothes to shoot the opening video for culture week. The fourth grade teachers are leading the way with their singing!

In addition to the wonderful performances by the teachers, the students have also begun to talk about the songs of the “Masked Singer”. The theme of reading month for the 4th grade is poetry, so the students are excited for fun and interesting activities about poetry during Chinese Culture Week. The “Culture Friday” activity this week for fifth grade introduced “Dongpo Pork”. Students will explore more about culture of traditional Chinese food.

During Chinese Culture Week, the fourth grade students will trace the mysteries of outstanding people, including exploring the charm of poetry, the inheritance of surnames, and traditional Chinese clothing. Students will also get a chance to experience handcrafts and sing Chinese songs.

The fifth graders will focus on the theme of “The Mystery of Gourmet,” where they can explore traditional Chinese food via food advertisements, learn Chinese cooking, enjoy gourmet food movies and prose, and share their cooking experiences. Students will learn Chinese food culture by combining practice with language expression and traditional culture.

It is an unusual April, but the journey of learning about traditional culture never stops. We look forward to meeting online and enjoying Chinese Culture Week together!
