Grades 4&5: Chinese E-Learning

April 8, 2020

Since March 2, online courses have been utilized in the grade 4 and 5 Chinese classes. Teachers work together to prepare rich, interactive, creative and functional learning resources for their students.

Spare No Effort

The Chinese teachers of grade 4 and 5 prepare elaborate lessons and concentrate on using the effective functions of LinkedClassroom. The Chinese courses are thorough and rich in content, focusing on learning new characters and phrases, reading textbooks and poems, sharing reading skills, offering book recommendations, hosting discussions, and assigning projects and research. In addition to the native Chinese course, there are also four levels of non-native Chinese courses. This provides each student with the most appropriate course for them. Students and teachers are improving themselves and interacting with each other with this wide range of learning activities.

Face Traditional Culture and Ourselves

Language is the carrier of traditional culture. The course integrates many elements of traditional Chinese culture. Language is also a window through which to see and converse with history. Students can freely travel through time and space to learn anecdotes about historical figures and communicate with celebrities.

Chinese E-learning combines language with traditional Chinese culture, which is both an inheritance and a fusion of learning. The students can immerse themselves in Chinese language learning easily with E-learning.

Develop the New from the Old

In the Chinese online courses, teachers actively explore new teaching methods to achieve the best learning effect. Fourth grade teachers have designed various interesting activities—such as homework display, voting for great sentences, telling stories, guessing riddles, and searching for answers independently—to attract students' interest and improve their independent learning ability.

Fifth grade teachers created different contents based on the texts, including situational discussion, designing WeChat Moments for Lu Xun, talking to historical figures like Luxun and Stephen Hawking, having an interview with elders, and practicing time management. Students were encouraged to try out new things and use their creativity

The non-native Chinese teachers have designed games and interactive activities to spark the students' enthusiasm for learning and let them enjoy the fun of Chinese. For example, Ms. Bao asked students to be the teacher and shared the stories behind Chengyus. Also, Mr. Li created different themes for the course homepage to engage students. Students were also able to learn Chinese when they were playing with blocks.

Chinese E-Learning not only brings students great learning experiences but enables “Cloud Conversation” among teachers and students. We hope that the course can cultivate students’ love and recognition of Chinese culture.

Teachers are making great efforts to prepare the lessons, and students are working hard and increasing their abilities. We are looking forward to the day of the reunion, but hope that everyone can treasure these unusual moments and enjoy E-Learning!
