Grade 11: The MFP Club Donated Protective Masks to Shanghai Children's Medical Center

February 28, 2020

Recently, the sudden epidemic disrupted the originally peaceful and lively festival atmosphere and changed the trajectory of students' lives and learning. China is fighting against the spread of the epidemic with the strength of the whole society. In this period of emergency, many of Shanghai’s medical staff have traveled to Wuhan to alleviate the pressure of curing patients diagnosed with Covid-19. The members of the MFP Club were all greatly moved when they heard that Dr. Chen Zhiwei, a child cardiovascular surgeon and the Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee of Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC) who has been supporting MFP Club activities for many years, was the first to stand out as he formed and led a task force to work in the isolated ward of the hospital. A Valentine's Day letter written by Dr. Chen to his wife and son was even more touching.

The rapid spread of the epidemic led to a shortage of protective materials. As a result, the members of the MFP Club responded immediately, launching an emergency response to purchase protective masks. With the help of Enzo’s parents, the MFP Club bought a batch of protective masks from Japan. The masks were quickly packed and shipped to the courier station in Japan the next day. Despite delays in logistics deliveries, the masks finally crossed the East China Sea and reached Shanghai after three weeks. On the afternoon of February 22, Kingsley and Sharon visited Shanghai Children’s Medical Center to deliver the purchased masks. On behalf of the MFP Club, they expressed heartfelt greetings from all the club members to the SCMC medical staff.

Dr. Ji Qingying, Secretary of the Party Committee of SCMC, Dr. Guo Weiwei, the Director of SCMC Director’s Office, and Ms. Cao Qing of SCMC’s Social Work Department received donations on behalf of the hospital. Dr. Ji fully commended the action of the club members and expressed her sincere thanks to the students. According to Dr.Ji, due to the shortage of materials in Wuhan, the SCMC has been regularly reallocating some of their protective materials to support the medical teams working in Wuhan. Perhaps some of the masks donated will help the medical staff to fight the epidemic in Wuhan as well. Club members are proud to be able to constantly contribute to the society by following the club mission and purpose.

We salute the medical staff for their love and benevolence in fighting against the epidemic. We wish them all the best and sincerely look forward to their safe and successful return.
