SHSID Established Cooperative Relationship with the　School of Biotechnology　of ECUST

On the afternoon of Jan. 2, 2020, Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID) and East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) School of Biotechnology entered into an agreement on the cultivation of student innovation and practical abilities.

Mr. Wang Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Principal of Shanghai High School and Prof. Wang Qiyao, Vice Dean of the School of Biotechnology, ECUST signed the Cooperation Agreement representing each party. Prof. Wu Hui, Head of the Admission Office of ECUST, Prof. Zuo Peng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Biotechnology, ECUST, Prof. Gao Shuhong, Teaching Secretary of the School of Biotechnology, ECUST, Prof. Xiao Jingfan, Vice Director of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, Mr. Li Youyuan, Instructor of iGEM, as well as Mr. Ma Feng, High School Principal of SHSID, Ms. Liu Min, High School Vice Principal of SHSID, Ms. Liu Qin, Director of Student Affairs Center of High School, Ms. Gu Ying, Grade 12 Supervisor and Head of the High School Biology Department and Mr. Liao Hui, High School STEM Advisor attended the signing ceremony.

During the ceremony, Prof. Wu Hui briefly introduced East China University of Science and Technology and Prof. Wang Qiyao introduced the history and achievements of the School of Biotechnology. The School originated in 1955 and was established in 1996. With a large number of top academic leaders from both home and abroad, it now is the home of a State Key Laboratory. SHSID was established in 1993—a leap forward for the 150-year-old Shanghai High School into international education. SHSID has advanced philosophy in education and aims to cultivate students with both international vision and an appreciation for Chinese culture.Secretary Wang Hui and Principal Ma Feng stressed the significance of this cooperation for the improvement of students' academic abilities and expected that the research platform at SHSID will be stronger due to this partnership. Principal Ma Feng also hoped that through this cooperation, students of SHSID can have opportunities to go to the State Key Laboratory and receive high-level guidance from the ECUST scientists, enhancing their abilitiesto conduct scientific research.

During the pleasant conference, both parties affirmed the positive effects of the cooperation. In the future, both parties will make good use of the methods of "bringing in" and "going out" to learn and communicate with each other, so as to provide a better and more diverse platform for STEM education.
