Rice University Admissions Officer Visited SHSID
On December 19th, an admissions officer from Rice University held a lecture and Q&A session in theXianmian Auditorium, introducing their campus life as well as the basic requirements for prospective students. Led by SHSID volunteers, the audience, including both students and parents, entered the auditorium with enthusiasm. Tina Liu from 12(1) also helped to translate the lecture into Chinese, allowing the audience to better understand the speakers. The admissions officer from Rice University first introduced the different majors and minors in their undergraduate program, ranging from specialties in natural science and computer science to art and music theory. The admissions officer also discussed their graduate programs.
The admissions officer then introduced their campus life, particularly the dormitory conditions and typical student experiences. Rice University, having a high rank in student satisfaction for both on-campus life and food on campus, focuses heavily on the students’ learning experience. Each dorm building is governed by a student government, who helps build an amiable relationship among students across all grades. Students can enjoy the opportunity to receive advice and experience from those upper-level students.
Finally, the admissions officer revealed the requirements that Rice University holds for standardized tests. Notably, the officer emphasized that students should go beyond standardized tests to develop their own interests.
After hearing all of the valuable information from the admissions officer, the audience was enthused about Rice University, asking many questions in the Q&A session. The admissions officer, in return, also replied with enthusiasm. Upon conclusion, all students and parents had a fruitful lecture, and are now well aware of the campus life, education, and the requirements of Rice University.
