Grade 11: Midterm Summary Meeting for IB Students

November 28, 2019

On the afternoon of November 22nd, students of the IB program gathered together in the XianMian Annex Auditorium to reflect on their growth in the past two months as well as possible improvements that could be made in the future.

Starting off the reflection and communication session, Ms. Jiang Hao reviewed the IB learner profile together with all the students, reminding them that the purpose of school education is not to only aim for academic achievement, but to improve and grow as independent thinkers and communicators. As Ms. Jiang encouraged students to reflect on their achievements and failures in the past two months, she also pointed out the importance for the students to communicate with teachers and seek advice from them whenever they can. Beyond communication, Ms. Jiang also mentioned that attitude, effort, and learning methods are all aspects worthy of evaluation and reflection.

Following Ms. Jiang’s thoughtful speech, Mr. Max Slonim introduced the IB class to the Personal Growth and R-TEW course, which will start in December, in order to emphasize the significance of reflection and action in the process of personal development for all students. Mr. Slonim also motivated the students to search for their personal interests while improving their academic performance in the following two years.

Lastly, Ms. Zhang Li urged students to develop their personal profile outside of school by exploring their interests in extracurricular activities and using their talents to make meaningful contributions to their community. Moreover, using an analogy of marginal cost and marginal benefit, Ms. Zhang noted the need for students to manage their time wisely so that the marginal cost could be minimized and marginal benefit maximized for every activity that they choose to do.
