Grade 9-12: Spirit Week
Before Shanghai High School International Division’s annual Sports Meet, all sorts of preparations for the upcoming event started to unfold according to plan. Students joined the activities with joy and passion, aiming to push the school into a lively, sporting atmosphere before the Sports Meet even started.
Weeks before the Sports Meet, students started to join round after round of preliminaries, which guaranteed the true quality of the competitions themselves. The competitors utilized their time during PE periods and afterschool to practice for their big day despite the heat waves from the sun. Teachers guided the contenders along and way, even joining into the sports themselves in order to maintain top form for the dodge ball match they would compete in. Hopefully, all the students and teachers obtained the outcome they are satisfied with and, most importantly, had tons of fun.
Other than the competitions, students and teachers worked very hard to prepare for the grand opening ceremony, cheerleading competition, and carnival: all highlights of the Sports Meet. To ensure the students would enjoy the amazing performance by both the Chinese and foreign teachers, the teachers stayed after school, learning and perfecting their dance moves. Students looked forward to this great event and watched joyfully as the teachers moved in unison and danced with style. The cheerleading dances performed by different classes of students were definitely exceptional as well. Every class presented 12 of their best to form their cheerleading team. Because these representatives knew the performances would directly affect their classes’ honor, they started to practice more than half a month ago. Their work and efforts brought joy and surprises to the Sports Meet itself.
Another highlight of this event is “Spirit Week”. Students and teachers from grade nine to twelve are welcome to dress according to the theme of each day of the week. The first day was “Merch Day”, during which students and teachers are asked to wear merchandise of any university or even our own school. On this day, people found the logos and titles of many different amazing universities. Following right behind this was “Twins Day”. Students and teachers could dress up in the same outfit or theme as their friends. The last day was “Spotlight Day”. On this day, students could choose to dress up in red, yellow, or blue. The campus was even more colorful than before.
The chain of activities presented during sports week allow the students and the teachers to experience the beauty of sports.
