Grade 7: Time Management

September 30, 2019

During YD class, seventh grade students looked at how to improve their time management skills. When the bell rang for YD class, students all took a seat and prepared for class. The teacher distributed color papers and instructed students to make name tents so she could learn everyone’s names. First, the teacher gave out a self-evaluation chart to see how skilled students thought they were at managing time. Then the teacher shared a TED Talk video that explained what it’s like to procrastinate.

The video used a metaphor to show how in a procrastinator’s brain, there is a rational decision maker and a monkey. The rational decision maker is the one who decides what to do, plans for the future, and is in control. However, the monkey is the one who decides to play, focuses on doing fun things, and wastes time. When one procrastinates, the monkey takes control and avoids important work, so the person will happen to procrastinate for a long time until the panic monster wakes up. The panic monster is the only thing the monkey is afraid of and allows the rational decision maker to take back control. Unfortunately, the panic monster only wakes up when there’s a due date that is coming close. From the video, students learned how procrastinating works and how to manage time more effectively.

After that, we watched another video which explained more about time management. Next, we wrote down our schedule to see how we can balance our time to have enough time to relax and study. From this YD class, we all learned this crucial skill that affects our daily lives. It will benefit our studies if we all learn how to manage our time properly.
